2018 Genesis G80 Sport Is Oh So Tempting In Red

Genesis is showing off the 2018 G80 Sport at the ongoing Detroit Auto Show and has added some spice to its stand by bringing in a bright red example.

The new Genesis G80 Sport is the most dynamic model to wear the Genesis badge and adopts a thoroughly revised exterior to denote its performance-oriented prowess. This includes new front and rear bumpers, distinctive 19-inch alloy wheels and four oval-shaped tailpipes.

Beneath the skin, the G80 Sport receives its punch from a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter direct-injected V6 engine delivering 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. This power is channeled through an eight-speed automatic transmission and can be paired with an optional all-wheel drive system to maintain grip in the toughest of conditions.

As with all other Genesis models, this one incorporates a selection of safety features including a multi-view camera, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection and Driver Attention Alert.

The Kia iteration (Stinger GT) is a far better looking than this G80.

    • baofe

Maybe, but I find the G80 Sport to be much more elegant and going for a different audience. The Stinger does look nice though.

      • SteersUright

You’re both right. I can’t wait to see both of these in person to see which I like more. I just really hope they drive as good as they look.

    • Kaisuke971

Design-wise, they seem as good as each other in their own role. Personally speaking, this G80 is more appealing.

severely lacked of a distinctive design language.

It’s a choice, these luxury cars target an audience that doesn’t want a car attracting too much attention. They make them slightly pedestrian yet very classy and muscular looking to appeal to their customers.

Interestingly enough, these types of cars usually sell way better than their “lifestyle” counterparts.

There’s nothing distinctive about the E Class, 5 Series or A6 these days, or for that matter, the GS aside from the snoz.

  • john1168

A very nice car. Hopefully it doesn’t get ignored because of all the excitement of the Stinger. Essentially the same car…but different. LOL I’m guessing the Stinger will be prices similarly to this G80.

    • bd

The Stinger sits on a 4″ shorter wheelbase.

The G80 (even in Sport guise) is a bit bland-looking; should look more striking once the G80 starts getting design cues from the New York concept and the G70.

Looks quite nice. I think the interior, especially dash needs some more coherent design work though.
