2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Shows Its Wide Body And Standard Drag Radials [w/Video]

Teased for the third time in as many weeks since we learned that the company is resurrecting the devilish moniker, Dodge has exposed the rear end of the Challenger SRT Demon.

And it’s looking good, especially with those massive 315/40 Nitto NT05R tires, front and rear, which have been developed specifically for the muscle car, using “a new compound and specific tire construction”, and wrap around the 18×11-inch rims.

By adopting the massive shoes, the Demon becomes the first ever factory produced vehicle fitted with standard drag radials, which, together with the wide-body kit, contribute to its purposeful stance.

Details surrounding its output remain unknown, but the Demon’s power is believed to be greater than the 707 HP and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque, developed by the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8, in the Challenger SRT Hellcat. The latter needs just 3.6 seconds to reach 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill, and will keep going up to 199 mph (320 km/h).

Moreover, with 200 lbs (91 kg) shed, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will get dangerously close to modern supercars in terms of straight-line acceleration.

With the time clock still ticking, Dodge will release a new teaser with their Demon each week, over the next three months, until the car will be ready to meet the audience for the first time, during the 2017 New York Auto Show.

what is the point of this car anyways?

    • Kaisuke971

If you have to ask, you’ll never know.

    • John Smith

What’s the point of any car?

    • Tumbi Mtika

There are no rules. There is no point.

It’s pointless. That’s the whole point of it. And the world is a much better place if this car exists.

    • Ron Nemeth

Like the Jeep saying goes….but now, for people like you, “it’s a Demon thing, you wouldn’t understand”. You’re like one of those guys who doesn’t like sports. You can’t be trusted. Real men like 3 things… sports, horsepower, poon. Any man who doesn’t “see the point” in those 3 things is a flaming homosexual.

  • Tumbi Mtika

    Oh shit.

  • Kaisuke971

I knew it, there were two solutions: either barely legal super sticky fat tyres or AWD. Either way it was gonna be a game changer, but this is more badass i’ll admit.

    • Ron Nemeth

You’re being close minded. It’s gonna have both. It has to be AWD. Cars have always had skinny tires on the front. This has all 4 with the same width. They have the Hellcat engine in their AWD Jeep GC now and in the Challenger GT. This is next. It’s a no brainer. It’s gonna boost sales in Canada and all northern U.S. States where it’s shit weather half the year. Even Lambos have AWD and super wide tires. This is gonna hug ANY corner thrown at it.

      • Kaisuke971

Well judging by the huge burnout it’s doing, it’s very unlikely that it’s AWD. It could be switchable but i doubt that Dodge built a switchable AWD capable of coping with around 1000nm of torque out of nowhere.

Performance cars haven’t “always had skinny tires on the front”, they tend to have smaller tyres at the front but besides maybe McLaren that uses 225 on the Super Series they aren’t skinny. The big tyres are the front might just be to make it handle, like with what Chevrolet did to the Z/28 ?

Lamborghinis, since the Countach, have always had about the widest tyres available for production cars, it’s pretty much part of being a Lamborghini. But they’re just wide, they aren’t freakin’ slicks like here, that’s the thing. These Nittos are bloody R compounds.

  • ErnieB

This might trump the competition 🙂

    • Polyester Poontang

      Bad choice of words.(-_ (-_-)_-)

  • Jay

So wait isnt it basically the same car from the june 7 2016 post about the pure evil challenger? Looks almost to have the same demon badge and body kit just different rims. It is already old.

  • Six_Tymes

    Want one badly

  • SteersUright

Awesome! I wanna see more factory wide bodies in general!!

  • Big Black Duck

Viper style side exhausts would have been cool

  • Six Thousand Times

    An even more ridiculous caricature.

  • Ron Nemeth

    I can’t wait, I can’t wait, I can’t wait, I can’t wait..
Was at the dealership today getting them ready for my order.
THE most killer, kick ass car ever produced and I’m gonna own one. Hope it comes with a complimentary drool cloth. A nice Demon bib is gonna save the leather from gettin wrecked.
