Guy Drives Ford Focus With Transmission Issue Until Brakes Catch Fire

There are few things quite as frustrating as driving a car that’s experiencing some kind of issue. One man in Georgia recently experienced that first hand and the case is rather strange.

A couple of days ago, the man who owns a Ford Focus uploaded three videos documenting a transmission issue he was having with the small hatchback.

He can be seen driving the Focus in traffic and then on the expressway while a warning sign that says ‘Transmission fault. Service now’ is displayed on the dashboard. It later reads ‘Transmission overheating. Stop safely’, a suggestion most drivers would follow.

However, the driver continues on his merry way all while complaining about the car and claiming that it is dangerous without pulling over and actually trying to inspect or resolve the issue. Ultimately, the issue gets so bad that the front brakes start glowing red hot and catch fire, apparently totaling the car.

Based on these videos alone, it is difficult to determine what is causing the issues. One Redditor suggests that the floor mat could have been depressing the throttle, causing the driver to apply the brakes constantly. This would also account for the fact that the driver claims the car was accelerating by itself.

What are your thoughts? Is there an actual mechanical issue with the car or not?

He’s driving on empty first of all. Obviously he doesn’t take care of his cars/things.

Lot’s of people drive till the fuel light comes on. Has nothing to do with transmission issues. Only 32K on car.

This is a myth that needs to die.

  • TheBelltower

Something seems fishy with this video.

Poor maintenance, neglected and he blaming Ford Motor Company than an independently owned Ford franchise who checked his car if he told the truth.

  • Jim Ragland

Who does this??? I mean really??? If this car is telling you to stop…just STOP!!! He can’t stop and now saying he is on the expressway…I mean his dumb$%& kept driving right??? Just to prove what a crap car it is…seems that he wanted put his life and other motorist life at risk to just make this video. I mean wow!

  • Xandao

Ok, we know poweshift have problens, but whats the point of this post? Hear a hillbilly talking shit?

  • Althea Later

You can blame him all you want. The car only has 32,000 miles. Haven’t exactly heard good things about newer Ford Focus reliability and this video doesn’t help. My neighbor purchased a new Focus 3 years ago and replaced it at a huge loss for a Mazda 3 after 1 year, because of issues. This is probably a DCT.

  • John S.

LOL! It appears he still had 3314 miles left on his Bumper to Bumper warranty as well as the Powertrain warranty. Ford is thanking him for the video..warranty void! His Insurance company…thank you for the video….policy void. Video shows he was negligent when he failed to stop the car. Car loan payments are still his. But, hey he got his 15 minutes of fame.

  • Althea Later

Problem is that it’s a DCT. These transmissions are a problem with Ford Focus and Fiesta and the new Hyundai Tucson. Nothing but complaints online.

  • Romanovich

He is lucky, because in South Africa Ford usually burned out without any of warnings.

I have a question: how can brakes becoming hot as hell be related to a transmission issue?
