Custom Wheels Help This Lexus RX Transition To The Dark Side

While the Lexus RX might not be the first SUV you think of when imagining something dark and threatening, this particular model seems to pull it off rather well.

In fact, it kind of reminds us of the trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight, where we get to see a bunch of black Lexus RX models being utilized by the government during an action sequence.

In terms of specs, all we know is that, this is an RX 350, and while its overall appearance is darker, that only applies to its windows and custom wheels, as plenty of factory standard chrome elements remain on the body.

If you’re curious to know more about the wheels, you’re looking at a set of Vossen Flow Formed Series rims, codename VFS6 – like the ones seen on this tuned Nissan Maxima last year.

The RX 350 features a 3.5-liter V6 unit, good for about 300 HP. It’s not a spectacular number in today’s premium SUV landscape, but it’s certainly not bad either.

Man, this thing is dumb looking. Regardless of the wheels.

Oh, look you commented negativity on another Lexus post like always. Get a life, troll.

Maybe, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s wrong. Lexus have the ugliest front ends in the business.

Wheels look good – Im pretty sure they’re the same ones they used on the RC Real Time build on Thursday.

  • Honda NSX-R

The factory RX F-Sport wheels look better imo. Not that these set of wheels look bad though.

  • Wow this is looking good! Nice.

A fine looking car now a finer looking one.

    Another Vossen advertorial…

Lexus used to be a more prestige car maker for me. The cars looked business. But now they just reminds me of things like the Nissan Juke. Ugly and not appealing in any way. They also look very cheap.

The owner also wears brown shoes with grey slacks, apparently.
The RX has dark paint and light satin trim.

    Wheels that match would:
    A) have shapes / lines / creases that play on the lines of the RX.
    These don’t.

    B) match a trim on the RX. Chrome trim? Chrome lip. Satin trim? Satin lip – maybe entirely silver satin wheel. If it’s a dark wheel you want, keep it to the center.

    C) size (and visual weighting) needs to be correct for the scope of the car. A portly, sturdy car needs a larger (at least visually – like an emphasized lip and long spoke lines) sturdy looking wheel. A sports car needs a light looking wheel, with lots of open space and minimal surfaces.

These aren’t my rules, this is just what you do if you don’t want to look like that guy who lives in the hood and bought the wrong car but thinks a set of wheels and stick-on parts can convert it to a sports car.
This looks like that guy’s SUV, with these particular wheels.

Either that or a car accident, and the guy chose to buy a cheap set of aftermarket rims rather than replace the damaged factory wheels. That would be my first assumption. In no way does this look like an upgrade.

It violates all the rules of style.
At least if you don’t let than the “black wheels on everything, regardless!” trend cloud your thinking… like the “huge wheels on everything, regardless!” trend we had in the ’00s.
There’s style, and then there’s trend that you look back and say “what was I thinking?” ….then you remember all the people saying to you “what were you thinking?”
    This, is that.

  • Braddo

Thats the fanciest RAV 4 i ever did see. Lol. It’ll take more than new wheels to make these things look good. .

  • Rick Chase

The ugliness of that grill is surpassed only by the Edsel.

  • KidRed

    Still gross.
