New Mercedes-AMG GT Concept Previews High Performance Saloon – First Official Photos

With the new Mercedes-AMG GT Concept, Stuttgart’s performance brand is giving us a preview of its upcoming four-door sports car at the Geneva Motor Show.

Mercedes-Benz has offered no other details on the study. That leaves us to ponder if it’s an entirely new four-door coupe (most likely) that will be sold alongside the third-generation CLS sedan that we’ve spied and which looks nothing like this concept, or (less probable) as some reports suggest, a replacement of sorts to the CLS Shooting Brake with a liftback style rear end to compete with Porsche’s newborn Panamera Sports Tourer.

Whatever the case, the production AMG GT that might end up being called the AMG GT4 to indicate its visual and performance relation to the AMG GT coupe, could be based on Mercedes’ MRA modular platform shared with the C63, E63 and S63 models.

It would makes sense for AMG to make use of the E63 S’ 4.0-liter bi-turbocharged V8 that’s good for 604hp (612PS) and 627 lb-ft (850Nm) and which catapults the top E-Class sedan to 60mph in 3.3 sec (100km/h in 3.3 sec).

With the Geneva Motor Show just around the corner, it won’t be long before we get more answers on the AMG GT Concept.

Update – After a handful of teasers from Mercedes, the first official images of the AMG GT landed on the internet today, courtesy of the ‘Old Benz Community’.

So could this replace the CLS? Or will this be sold alongside the CLS? If so, I don’t really see the point of having both cars in the lineup.

    • Evan McMaster

We don’t know yet thats why they are speculating.

    • Ary Wisesa

I guess it won’t replace the CLS because their DNA are different. CLS is the first and foremost a luxury sedan (or 4-door coupe like they said), shares its DNA with the E-Class, which itself is a comfortable and quiet cruiser. The GT, however, is a true sport car. So the GT saloon will definitely inherit its DNA from its sibling, with much sharper handling, but maybe also with much less comfort than the CLS. Well, just guessing. 🙂

    • The Watcher

I’m willing to bet, this is CLS replacement.

      • Six Thousand Times

M-B will take that bet. See John’s answer, above.

        • Bo Hanan

They would cannibalize each other in the showroom together. And the CLS would clearly loose.

  • MIL1234

    Panamera ?

    • TheHake

  • Carenthusiast

Most probably CLS – heavily camouflaged on the rear as seen in the link.

    • Matt

      Or not…

  • Carenthusiast

This could go head to head with Panamera which makes a lot of sense.

  • xtcpmp

There is no reason to wonder what this car is or what would be. It is AMG GT, but with 4 doors. No brainer.

  • Carenthusiast
  • Six_Tymes

looks very much like Porsche design

  • Nordschleife

Don’t overdo it Mercedes. You’ll fall into BMW territory you keep this up.

  • Belthronding Tinuviel

This may replace CLS Shooting Brake but not sedan.

    • Matt

This is an AMG-only model, basically a four door AMG GT. CLS is a completely different market segment.

      • Belthronding Tinuviel

Yeah i know that is 4 door amg gt.
But i am not sure it’s segmentation.
Anyway, it is good to see something not similar to c,e,s.

  • Dariush

mercedes are so sweet these days!

    • Rick Alexander

Too bad you can`t say the same thing about their customer service.

  • eb110americana

If the CLS looked like this, it might again be the best looking sedan on sale today. As is, even in the spy shots, Mercedes is holding too tightly to some very dated design.

  • Matt

Why is everyone confusing this with the CLS?

There have been reports for a while now that AMG want to build a stand-alone four door – this is it.

The new CLS will continue to be E-Class based, while this is most likely based on the architecture of the AMG GT.

In other words, not the same.

    • antbee

Thank you! Just about every other comment was about this being the CLS replacement.

  • Tumbi Mtika

Please don’t come with that UGLY grille.

    • Matthew Daraei

May I ask you what is ugly about AMG-Gt’s grille?

      • donald seymour

I believe that he is speaking of the GT-R’s grille in which I agree with him.

        • Matthew Daraei

Thank you for the reply. But still I don’t know what is wrong with GT-R’s grille. Would you please illustrate a bit on that? I appreciate it.

        • Kaisuke971

It’s called the “Panamericana” grille if anyone wonders

    • Bob

      I spy a Panamericana-esque grille. Sorry Tumbi.

      • Tumbi Mtika

        • OdysseyTag

          I guess there’s your confirmation.

  • Elmediterraneo

Maybe the CLE/CLS will go only to the AMG 50 version with the new Inline 6 engine.
And let the room for a proper 4 door AMG GT with the V8 that can compete the Panamera Turbo.

  • Tumbi Mtika

Does the AMG-GT replace the AMG C63 coupe?

    Get real…

  • Kaisuke971

That central exhaust though i don’t know Merc, it looks kinda weird

  • donald seymour

Fellas, fellas, and ladies…aint nobody gone talk about that a$%? Aint nobody gone say nothing? I’ll go for days on that car.

  • Bash

this will give the panamera a hard time for sure

  • Hoe

If this is going to be an AMG sports sedan, that definitely means Maybach will not make any standalone car?

    • antbee

Maybach has been dead, for years! It’s only a trimline of the S-Class Sedan.

      • Hoe

1- not only a trimline for S class
        2- Mercedes Maybach 6??

        • antbee

That G-Wagen Laundalet thing?! I would never have sullied the Maybach name, by putting it on anything that can go in mud, purposely.

          • Hoe

Well the trend is to SUVify all brands…

          • antbee

            LOL! You’re right about that!

  • cool

  • TheBelltower

Good god. Can we go back to just seeing the teaser shots? This thing is a mess.

    • donald seymour

I think the pictures were made to give off that vibe of being a mess. But for me, I’m still trying to digest that belt line. It looks odd.

  • Headlights that do not look retarded… finally.
And the rest, pretty much perfect.
    Restored my faith in Mercedes.

  • Matt

Why is Carscoops now ‘updating’ stories with new images rather than creating a new article? All the comments become meaningless when you don’t even know what images they were commenting on. Just my opinion.

    • antbee

True. It gets my pressure up with the initial guessing and assuming responses. Then they go and add pictures or additional details to an article, that makes the initial comments moot. Pressure raised for nothing.

    • OdysseyTag

I hear you there. I keep thinking it’s a new article until I scroll down to the comments.

  • klowik

Fxxk!!! So damn hot!!!!! SHOULd be the next CLS..

    • antbee

Did you even read the article, or are you just fucking with everyone?

      • donald seymour

Hey, buddy cool it. Some people are not like us. We have to accept that this site is attracting newbies. So let’s tone down on the hostility. I understand your frustrations.

        • antbee

          I apologize. Thank you.

          • donald seymour

  • disappointed, it looks like a tuned cla/gt mix. the exhaust is of course concept car bling bling, but man, it had so much potential…

  • U8INIT

Y’all aware MB leaves no stone unturned. This shall compete with the Porche Panamera…trust

  • Kaisuke971

The front looks like what would come out if you putted Merc design language on a Mustang

  • Cobra1

    Finally! A four door Mustang!

    • Belthronding Tinuviel

      that was my dream!

  • Benjamin B.

That looks like a Tesla with different badges.

  • baofe

This car looks sad and angry at the same time. How did MB do that?

  • Honda NSX-R

I’m actually like its looks better than the AMG GT coupe. Good job Mercedes!

  • Six Thousand Times

This came out better than I thought it would. Hopefully, if Benz is doing a four-door GT , Porsche will retaliate with a new 928.

    • Rick Alexander

Porsche already stated the 928 would resurface. As for Mercedes, this concept is supposed to be the answer to Porsche`s Panamera.

  • Belthronding Tinuviel

it looks much more similar to amg gt than panamera does look to 911. so i like that.

  • Big Black Duck

Am I the only one seeing Mustang here

  • Maximilian Norlande Rabbitt

Does anyone see the new Ford Mustang in front?

  • john1168

Great looking car but what is up with those wheels??? They’re a little too much for me…
