MG E-Motion Could Put British Marque Back On The Map

A number of new pictures have been released of the MG E-Motion Concept prior to the vehicle’s debut at the Shanghai Auto Show.

The E-Motion marks a significant departure from the vehicles the automaker is currently producing and while it isn’t known if MG intends on bringing it to the street, it could act as the halo sports car the brand so desperately needs.

The nose of the MG E-Motion is characterized by a large grille with chrome accents and a set of sleek, LED headlights. Other noteworthy styling elements include the large wheels, butterfly doors, a huge glass panoramic roof and a Ferrari-esque rear end.

Power for the E-Motion is expected to come from an electric powertrain capable of accelerating the concept to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 4 seconds and allowing for a 482 km (300 mile) range.

I generally try to avoid saying “this car looks like some other random car” but…. that… is a Mazda.

    • Craig

      Yes! Very Mazda like.

the side profile also has some Jaguar f-type vibe to it.

That’s what I thought and then I realized the Evos itself took many details from another British marquee.

      • Benjamin B.

Still the Evos is one of my favorite concepts ever. Was it unveiled in Geneva, Switzerland or Germany?? It’s very sleek. I’d like to see a 2-door Mondeo coupe or 3-door shooting brake-style hatchback. Preferably torque vectoring AWD like on the Focus RS. That’ll be a fun budget GT car similar to the Ford Cougar/Mercury Cougar.

    In other electric car news:

In the latest potential setback for the on-time delivery of Tesla’s Model 3, I4U reports that Tesla is facing a potential strike at its new German subsidiary. Tesla acquired Grohmann, a specialized machine manufacturer, for about $150 million several months ago and now the German Trade Union IG Metall has warned that it is exploring a worker strike at Tesla Grohmann. A key supplier, the machines built at Tesla Grohmann are used to manufacture the Model 3. As a result, the Model 3 production start in July could face another imminent delay.

According to I4U, the 660 Tesla Grohmann employees are paid 25 to 30% less than the union rate.

    Great looking Mazda..

I always wondered what a Mazda6 Coupe would look like

  • Six_Tymes

    Fantastic

  • GIVEN THAT WE HAVEN’T SEEN AN MG IN THE US IN DECADES AND WHAT I’VE SEEN ON-LINE WHAT THEY’RE SELLING NOW, I’D DOUBT SOMETHING THIS SHARP HAS A CHANCE.

  • BqWsRe

But it is not a Tesla…Lol

  • Bash

Hopefully they do it right.. I still have hope in MG..

  • Six Thousand Times

Hell, at least it’s not another goddam SUV.

  • Can always trust MG to make good concept cars and only one so far hasn’t actually made it to production. I hope it gets the greenlight.

  • Infinite1

    The next Mazda coupe

  • Chris C

In the released image of the rear end reminds me a bit of TVR’s around the tail lights. I think they might need to do a bit more work on how the hatch works in combination with a panoramic roof…

    Mazda 3 + Jaguar F-Type + Ford Evos concept = this.

  • bonzomatic

Here’s a crazy idea. How about if MG builds a small convertible roadster that competes with the MX5. I don’t see any reason for them to keep trying to make any other type of car. That model clearly doesn’t work.

  • disqus_83g6mJmr6l

THAT IS A VERY NICE LOOKING MAZDA,RIGHT THERE..

  • Benjamin B.

I see a lot of details from the Ford Evos. Which one can argue stole a lot from another classic British marquee I won’t mention (should be obvious).
