Driver Flips Range Rover After Failed J-Turn

Unless you’re a trained professional, or Tom Cruise backed by a half-dozen stunt guys, attempting a high-speed J-turn on public roads is a massively bad idea.

This goes double if say, you’re doing it in something like a Range Rover, which has the center of mass of a moderately tall building. Either way, at least the driver wasn’t injured during this failed stunt.

What has us worried is that he attempted the maneuver in a residential neighborhood. Whether or not that was his own driveway, we don’t know, but it was certainly dangerous nonetheless.

Of all the cars you could attempt a high-speed J-turn with, we reckon the Range Rover has to be in your top 5 as far as bad ideas go. Someone in the comments section suggested that a BMW (presumably an X5) might have fared better, which is plausible, although we’d suggest refraining from doing these types of stunts. Period.

There are better ways to take the luggage out of the car…

    Nice one.

584MHM… Poor masking on the plates.

How do you explain this crash to a cop? Or worse, your insurance company?

    • Dennis James

That’s why you have insurance, to cover stupidity amongst other things 🙂

      • Spyderdrifter

I highly doubt insurance wouldn’t cover this since he was being intentionally reckless and no doubt blatantly disregarding all traffic laws. They may cover stupid accidents, but not obvious negligence. They would probably go as far as dropping his coverage for it too.

    • Spyderdrifter

Could see this asshat claim the throttle pedal got stuck or it somehow got stuck in reverse. Idiots like this shouldn’t be allowed to drive.

    • Honda NSX-R

Especially when they see the SMG.

  • No Thanks

How would you like to be this jackhole’s neighbor?

    • Status

I fear running into that ‘kind’ of neighbour every single day.

  • Obsequious Lickspittle
    • Astonman

      yep

  • Gerald Michael

Somebody wasn’t paying attention in physics class.

  • Akira

I can’t understand what he was trying to do. Even if it didn’t roll the car would still have smashed into the house.

  • John Doll

    Mashed potatoes for brains.

  • appleimmune

    Brilliant!

  • LJ

Must’ve watched the Tom Cruise stunt video from yesterday.

    • Six_Tymes

      LOL

  • Althea Later

a$$ hole could have killed people

    • Jay

Very true but to be fair professional stunt drivers get hurt and kill too. I doubt this was a stunt though it looks to be recorded on a security camera..

  • Luc Helterbrand

    Darwin wins again.

  • Harry_Wild

Tom Cruise does most of his own stunt work in driving and is a certified race car driver too! His motorcycle stunts are is own! You have have a lot of faith in your own abilities to do it on a motorcycle, not matter what you think of Tom Cruise otherwise.

The driver of the RR is not Tom Cruise! Now you can see why SUV roll overs are a concern!

I think this move should be called sideways backing up at 30 mph routine roll over move.

  • Kash

I wonder if it was an accident and he wasn’t actually trying to do the stunt, i don’t think the video was posted by the driver or anyone he knows.

My grandfather did something similar once except he didn’t roll his car but he was also in a sedan not Range Rover. He was backing out of my driveway once, confused the brake for accelerator, went from the end of the cul-de-sac to the corner house, through one person’s yard and sort of launched off a short wall into the corner house’s garage door and into a king stud of the house. He was fine, but he just lost control and the whole thing looked pretty similar to this.

    • LeStori

I have seen automatic cars shoot out of driveways, backward, and straight across a road and end up sitting on top of the fence on the other side of the road. Others siting on top of cars in suburban shopping centres etc. All because someone hit the accelerator rather than the brake.

It would’ve been awesome if we heard in the audio…”honey I’m home!”

If that was his property, good on him for trying. I find it shocking there aren’t more on here who can empathize with failed attempts at doing irresponsible but cool stuff in cars. I broke so many control arms on curbs in my day learning to slide my pos 240

  • GE90man

    guess the bass dropped

  • WHY? NO ONE SEEMED TO BE CHASING HIM.

  • brn

It seems that owning a Land Rover doesn’t give you a rudimentary understanding of physics.

  • Six_Tymes

this dude gets a GREAT JOB!

  • like a glove

  • MIL1234

should have turn the wheel two times

  • Ed

Darwin was rooting for another GPE (Gene Pool Elimination).

  • Six_Tymes

    Great Job!

  • Honda NSX-R

Notice how a sub machine gun fell out from the SUV…

  • Tumbi Mtika

    Land Rover: Above and beyond.

  • Astonman

When this stunt is done in the movies – notice that the ground area is always wet? Creates less friction. I guess the guy never got the memo

  • Vassilis

    hahahahahaha

  • TheHake

    What a stupid doos.
