Hyundai N Boss Hints At Veloster And Tucson N

Hyundai is gearing up to introduce the i30 N shortly, though new details are starting to emerge about future N variants.

In an interview with Drive, Hyundai N boss Albert Biermann confirmed there are several more high-performance models in the pipeline. As he explained, “We started with the C-segment and the fastback will follow, and we are already working on some other concepts for the B-segment and SUV also.”

Biermann declined to say which model he was referring to when he mentioned the fastback, but it’s presumably the Veloster as the Genesis Coupe successor will become part of the Genesis lineup.

Besides confirming the i30 N will be following by a high-performance coupe, Biermann strongly suggested the Tucson could receive an N variant. He hinted the model would have a reduced ride height, sportier tires, improved handling, and “a lot of power.” The former BMW M boss also noted “We have a good platform with the Tucson to make a high-performance SUV” so it seems likely the company will offer one in the future.

Unfortunately, fans looking for a Genesis N will be out of luck, as the executive said there are currently no plans for high-performance versions. Despite that, he confirmed the upcoming Genesis G70 will have a twin-turbo 3.3-liter engine.

The i30 N (Elantra GT N here in the USA) should be a legit contender to the GTI and Focus ST. I drove the Elantra Sport sedan and it and the GTI are at the top of my list for a new daily next year. They are finally getting the chassis tuning worked out so the cars actually perform well and don’t just look good on the spec sheet. I have to say though a 260hp AWD Tucson with suspension and brake upgrades sounds like a nice little crossover too.

smart moves, just dont over price them.

Exactly! Still you shooting at the X3M and top model AMG GLC; price it cheaply, say around $70K as the base price with fully loaded at $85K! $15K-$20K less the the Germans models.

Love the idea of the Tucson N, the chassis is great, but I wish we had a bigger budget when we bought ours.
The 2.0ltr NA Active X looks great, but doesn’t not have a lot of go.

The new Veloster in N-form will NOT be part of the Genesis line-up.

There are plans for a separate high performance line for Genesis (will be called something different), but probably still some years away before we see any (Biermann already has his hands full).

Did you misread the sentence? It said the Fastback will more likely be the Veloster, as the Genesis Coupe successor will be joining the Genesis brand. It doesn’t mention the Veloster will be joining the Genesis brand at all.

I’d like to see the higher power motor in a NON lowered Tucson as well.
