2017 Mazda CX-5 Offers Premium Qualities For A Non-Premium Price

Mazda’s new SUV has already attracted a lot of positive feedback for its good looks, but what about the rest of it?

With rivals including the Honda CR-V, the Toyota RAV4 and the Ford Escape, the 2017 CX-5 needs more than just a nicely shaped body to persuade customers.

Power comes from a four-cylinder 2.5-litre SkyActiv petrol four with 187hp and 185 lb-ft (251 Nm) of torque, which puts the new CX-5 in a slight disadvantage against its turbocharged competition, but the margin is far smaller than you might think.

Inside Mazda’s SUV is also pushing the boundaries of what a non-premium model can offer, with lovely stitching, cushy materials and a nice infotainment system. Add to that a quiet environment during cruising, and what you’re left with is a very compelling package.

KBB reviews the 2017 Mazda CX-5 and singles out its strengths and weaknesses in their latest video that you can watch right after the jump.

I’ve seen quite a few of these new Cx-5 on the street, and they really stand out with the unique exterior design, especially with those extra cost color options.

I cant help but laugh every time I hear this guys reviews… I wonder if he talks that way to his spouse. LOL

    • Grumpy

He seems to imitate the other guy on KBB car reviews. Or, it could be how KBB wanted their presenters to talk.

“Stylish Nissan Rogue” stylish isn’t the word I would’ve used.

Probably still the best buy in its class, also here in Europe. But wished they gone a bit further with the design. From the side I don’t see any improvements and for some reason the nose doesn’t really fit. And stop with those ridiculous looking 17″ wheels and these lame 19″ wheels. Also again they offer no other wheels to choose from so all lease CX-5’s will look the same. Great interior though 🙂

    • Grumpy

Not a fan of those wheels; never liked the black and machine finished wheels. They should offered the wheels from the cx-9 grand touring or the 6 grand touring.

  • Vassilis

They need some small displacement turbo petrols in the engine line-up.

  • Dennis James

2.5 liters and 187hp ? Those figures are from like 20 years ago.

    • Grumpy

And still very common in the compact cuv and midsize car segment.

  • ctk4949

The Honda CR-Vis freaking fugly, compared to the CX-5!!!!! lol

  • Nordschleife

No ventilated seats is a no go for me.

  • Jose Perez

Slower, worse gas mileage, worse handling than the previous generation CX-5. No thanks, besides Motor Trend thinks the CRV is better,
