Someone Bid $200,000 For The First U.S. Honda Civic Type-R

Honda USA is currently auctioning the first U.S.-spec Civic Type-R for charity, with the highest bid at the moment being a scarcely believable $200,000.

With six days left at the time of writing, the Honda Civic Type-R VIN number SHHFK8G75HU200101 has already attracted some serious money, with “happycappyauto” submitting a bid of $200k, upping the previous bid by $144,000.

Bring A Trailer has already confirmed that the bid is legit. That also leaves us wonder how much higher it could get with so many days left until the hammer drops.

All proceeds of the auction will go to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. As for the car itself, the first Honda Civic Type-R in America is finished in Aegean Blue Metallic and features a set of 20-inch alloys wrapped with sticky Continental ContiSportContact 6 summer tires.

Its turbocharged 2.0-litre engine makes 306hp and 295lb-ft of torque and is mated exclusively to a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox which the chassis benefits from a fully independent suspension and adaptive dampers.

The new Honda Civic Type-R also holds the title of the fastest front-wheel drive production vehicle at the Nurburgring, after setting a lap time of 7 minutes 43.8 seconds.

      It’s for charity isn’t it?

        It’s a Honda. Charity or not. $200,000 on a Honda… really?

It’s not like this is the first time we’ve seen this kind of thing. Somebody paid $550,00 for the first Focus RS (also for charity). Nice car, but $550,000 on a Focus. In my opinion if you were planning on donating a large sum of money anyways but you can get a nice car in return, why not?

would have been wiser to buy a nice car like a BMW and donate the rest to charity but to buy a cheap econobox with raceboy parts for 200K is insane lol but as Merc1 said, a fool and his money are soon departed , oh well atleast it all is going to charity

Damn, that thing is ugly. Who would buy this over a Focus RS?

    • John

why not just buy a BMW 4 then? both cost around $42,000

  • iKaizen

I wish they would offer awd on this model, even if it may make it a little bit slower

  • S3XY

Don’t care if its for “charity”. That’s a waste of money. Especially considering it’s a honda. And one that looks like that. *Barf*
