2017 Ford GT and Camaro ZL1 Go Head-To-Head At Mid-Ohio Track

When Ford finally got around to releasing performance details about the 2017 GT earlier this year, it said the new American supercar is faster around a track than both the Ferrari 458 Speciale and McLaren 675LT.

That’s all well and good, but the Speciale was over three years old and the McLaren two years old when Ford revealed these times, and in the meantime a new crop of supercars has come out.

So, while we wait to see how the GT competes against the likes of the Ferrari 488, McLaren 720S and Huracan Performante around a circuit, we have found a clip of it going toe-to-toe with a 2017 Camaro ZL1 at Mid-Ohio.

Filmed from inside the Camaro, the clip shows that, on a track, the muscle car can stick with the half a million-dollar supercar. Obviously, if a professional racing driver drove the two back-to-back, it is the Ford GT that’d easily set the fastest lap time, but still, the video does highlight just how capable the new ZL1 is on a racetrack and perfectly demonstrates its roaring, supercharged V8.

Ford GT is the new king.

Although I love the ZL1, this means absolutely nothing without know the skill level of the drivers

The Ford GT is quite literally a 1,000 lbs lighter, it wouldn’t even be a contest with pro-drivers.

ZL1 might as well be a truck when it comes to weight and aerodynamics in comparison to the Ford GT.

Wish we could have watched two pros driving.

The Ford GT wasn’t racing, he doesn’t even care what crap is behind him.

It’s capable of following a car that isn’t trying to go as fast as it can around a race track; what an accomplishment.

What’s next a ZL1 following a Ford GT around a parking lot and claiming it can keep up?

        • Auf Wiedersehen

First off, he rarely leaves highway speeds so capable is not how I would describe this particular video clip. Most cars are capable of the speeds in this clip. And the ZL1 looks very floaty, loose and not in control to me. Not to mention the driver is only using one hand, so maybe it’s the novice driving a course with one hand that makes it look like it’s not in control.

The driver in the gt is not going all out,he probably doesn’t want to wreck his new sweet ride….

  • Bullitt2605

All this shows is that the Camaro can stay with a GT that isn’t trying very hard.

  • SteersUright

The ZL1 is such an amazing machine, and quite beautiful. I WISH I could see out of it better as I’d make every effort to buy one if I could.

  • john1168

I wonder what the experience levels are of each driver and how hard the Ford GT driver was trying?

    • Auf Wiedersehen

Camaro = Very novice (not a bad thing necessarily)
GT = Not trying hard…I think that’s obvious.

  • Cameron

The GT was taking a leisurely Sunday stroll and the Camaro was trying it damnest to keep up. These two have no comparison.
