Earlier this week, the Formula 1 Power Unit Working Group held a formal meeting at which the likes of Aston Martin as well as Cosworth were present.

The first such meeting took place in March and was attended by all the current manufacturers, as well as representatives from the outside, such as the VW Group.

This second, according to Autosport, was also attended for the first time by Aston Martin, Cosworth, Zytek and Magneti Marelli. It is understood that the meeting was largely positive, with the FIA considering feedback while also presenting its own ideas.

Both the FIA as well as the commercial rights holder are looking for options on how F1 engine technology should evolve, while also looking to transform the current crop of turbocharged hybrid units into something entirely new starting with the 2021 season.

The next step could potentially involve the FIA consulting with each participant in private, where in the end a joint proposal should be finalized. As for the next meeting, it could take place as soon as September.

Could Aston Martin be one step closer to entering Formula 1? It’s hard to say at this point, although thanks to Sean Bull Design, we can already start imagining what their team would look like on the grid.
