Following the introduction of the updated Tourneo Custom, Ford has released the first information on the van version, the new Transit Custom.

The exterior revisions are the same with the ones first seen on the Tourneo Custom, meaning a new front-end design with an exclusive three-bar grille for the Transit Custom. The new headlights can now be optioned with LED DRLs and Xenon lamps in higher trim levels.

This brings it in line with Ford’s latest passenger cars, but the biggest update comes from inside, as the cabin is now completely new. The company’s latest interior philosophy, kicked off with the latest Fiesta, is applied at features like the instrument binnacle and the floating touchscreen for the infotainment system – but there’s more.

Ford says that the new interior design now offers 25 lt of interior stowage in the instrument panel alone, with three open bins on its upper surface. The materials are described as attractive and hard-wearing, which is what you want from your one-tonne commercial vehicle, while the completely redesigned door panels add more storage options and a new grab handle.

The new Ford Transit Custom will continue using the company’s state-of-the-art EcoBlue diesel unit, which is offered in 105, 130 and 170 PS versions, improving the fuel efficiency by 13 percent and low-end torque by 20 percent.

The most frugal option of the range will be the new Econetic version, which emits 148gr/km of CO2 and returns an average of 49.6mpg UK (5.7lt/100km). The uniquely calibrated 105 PS diesel unit, the Auto-Stop-Start function, a set of low-resistance tires, Ford’s Acceleration Control feature and a top speed limited to 62 mph (100 km/h) are responsible for the efficiency gains.

There is also a range of driver assistance systems, including features like Traffic Sign Recognition, Cross Traffic Alert, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control among others.

The range-topping 170 PS Sport series model is also getting a redesigned for the new model body kit, which includes twin bonnet stripes and an interior finished in partial leather and embossed fabric inserts.
