Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently claimed The Boring Company had received “verbal” government approval to dig a tunnel for a Hyperloop to connect the cities of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C.
The executive slowly walked back that statement after a flood of officials denied the claim but the project is inching closer to being feasible as Musk has released the first video of The Boring Company’s car elevator.
As you can see in the clip, a Tesla Model S drives onto a white platform and is then lowered beneath ground level. The video ends there but previous promotional footage suggests the car would actually park on a railcar and then be lowered onto a track. The railcar would then transport the vehicle to its destination where it would get on an exit elevator, rise from the ground, and then drive off the platform to complete the final leg of the journey.
The ramp is still in the testing phase but Musk’s plan called for the Hyperloop to connect from “city center to city center” and each city would have “up to a dozen or more entry/exit elevators.”
