Audi Q8 Spied Virtually Undisguised Ahead Of Its Debut Next Year

The Audi Q8 has been spied virtually undisguised by a member of the Autopareri forum.

Previewed by the Q8 and Q8 Sport concepts, the production model is based on the MLB Evo platform that underpins the Q7. While the two models will have a lot in common, the Q8 features unique exterior styling which can be clearly seen in this photo.

The single image reveals the crossover will have an upward sweeping beltline, a gently sloping roof, and small rear quarter windows. Buyers will also find muscular fenders and a steeply raked rear window. Other highlights include a dual exhaust system, slender taillights, and massive five-spoke alloy wheels.

The unique styling will carry over to the interior as previous spy photos have shown the model will be equipped with a sports steering wheel and a high-tech center console with two digital displays.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but are expected to mirror those on the Q7. This means the model could be offered with a 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder developing 252 hp (188 kW) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque as well as a 3.0-liter TFSI V6 producing 333 hp (248 kW) and 325 lb-ft (440 Nm) of torque. We can also expect a plug-in hybrid variant and a high-performance RS Q8.

        I dunno about that small, I’d say it looks closer to the Q5’s size than the Q7’s for sure though.

          Yeah the Q2 is out but it definitely not giving me Q7 size so I think Q5 is good. For some odd reason as i was typing this, the Toyota Venza came to my mind.

            I think the phrase that’s best described it was “Q7 Sport” and i think that’s fairly accurate actually.

      I wanna say GLE/X6 but trying to go more practical than them? Maybe they’re just going after a price point like the +85k bracket of crossovers? I don’t really know TBH.

      From the looks of it, it’s just a 2 row Q7 trying to compete with the GLE and X5 but also the GLE Coupe and X6 at the same time from some of the angles of the roof line.

        Hmm so this could basically be a Q7 Sport. Interesting. I would immediately think this would compete with the GLE coupe and X6 if it had that couple-like roofline.

      It’s one of those things that only makes sense in German. Like the 4-door model of the coupe version of the sedan–and why they need a 3-Series one (GT) and a 4-Series one (Gran Coupe)–plus the regular 3-Series.

    It seems like Audi has the naming convention wrong. This should be the Q7 since the A7 has the slant back rear. The Q7 really needs to be the Q6 and the larger SUV coming out needs to be the Q8 with the Q9 being another slant back rear like the A7/ proposed Q7. That would make more sense. Also the Q5 needs to be the Q4.

    • Too late for that – the Q7 was their first SUV/crossover that slotted between the A6 and A8, later the family grew (a bit too fast) – that said, Audi could pull a “Dummernamensschalter” (my new German word for “stupid name switch”) a la BMW, just as they did with their 5-, 6- and 8-series.

        That’s what I was thinking. They just need to slot everything down one number for it to make more sense.

        If you want a slant back mid sized car get the A7. If you want a slant back mid sized SUV get the Q7.

        • Audi could do ot right; there’s precedent – unlike BMW, Mercedes-Benz did it right a couple of years ago realigning their cars & SUVs by size classes:
          – A/GLA subcompacts
          – C/GLC compacts
          – E/GLE midsizes
          – S/GLS full-sizes
          They still have to reorganize the coupes, though.

  • Looks a lot like a Volvo crossover… an Audi thinks this will be in the same class as the X6 and GLE-Coupe? (following their model numbering “logic”); more likely a RR Velar’s rival, imo.

    Quite clearly meant to be an X6 and GLE Coupe rival. And as such, makes as much sense as those respective vehicles. I don’t see these variants selling as much as their traditionally shaped counterparts but seeing as BMW already has the X4 and X6 while Merc has the GLC Coupe and GLE Coupe, it’s simply Audi playing “catch-up”.
