Elon Musk Reveals The SpaceX Spacesuit

Elon Musk has revealed the final design of SpaceX’s spacesuit and fittingly, it’s unlike any other spacesuit.

In his Instagram post detailing it, Musk says it was “incredibly hard to balance esthetics and function” and promised that more images of the spacesuit will be released in the coming days. Although the suit looks like something from a science fiction film, it has been tested to double vacuum pressure, Musk claims.

The spacesuit of course forms part of SpaceX’s aim of sending passengers into space with a manned version of its Crew Dragon capsule. Like the suit, the capsule adopts a minimalist design with unique seats and nothing but white and black surfaces.

If Musk has his way, SpaceX will fly two private citizens around the moon in 2018. While some have doubts about this happening so soon, there’s no doubt that those two citizens will at least look good as they venture into space.

First picture of SpaceX spacesuit. More in days to follow. Worth noting that this actually works (not a mockup). Already tested to double vacuum pressure. Was incredibly hard to balance esthetics and function. Easy to do either separately.

Why is this relevant on this site?

    • Kash

Anything even remotely Tesla related is somehow car news, don’t you know?

      • John

silly rabbit… you never watched Jetson? space cars are coming before we know it.. everybody gonna need one of these spacesuits.

        • Auf Wiedersehen

The Jetson’s didn’t need space suits to fly their cars.

I’m waiting for OMD to re-release Tesla Girls. Should be a great article.

It’s about a space ship in a way

      • Obsequious Lickspittle

What is this, Space shipscoops? 😉

    • BGM

Silence unbeliever! Elon the Magnificent has spoken! Bow down before the Oracle of Wonder. How dare you question the Messiah who brought us the electric car and the rocket and who will bring us the tunneling machine and the battery? He invented all of these things by himself, from scratch, with divine inspiration!

  • Benjamin B.

I know it’s pointless to ask, but how much will the trip cost? The answer is probably: ‘if you have to ask how much, you cannot afford it.’

  • Research Janitor

How much government money did Elon get for this?

    • gary4205

      A bunch.

      • Astonman

Did some checking – he started Space X with the money he earned from sale of Paypal. Saw $20 million in subsidies from Texas for their launch site. Otherwise he got the $4.9 billion contract from the government for his rockets being successful.

    Con. Artist.

Because when you go into outer space, you have to LOOK good!

    • Infinite1

Of course, you have to impress the stars and the planets…

Whether or not it’s relevant for this site, I still applaud Elon for things like this. A lot of people are closed-minded, and say certain things will never happen in their lifetime. Fortunately, Elon isn’t one of those people. With Paypal, we’ve gotten a new (obviously not new anymore lol, bear with me) way to pay for things. With Tesla, we’ve gotten DESIRABLE electric vehicles. The Boring Company might shorten extended travel times, and SpaceX will allow anyone (yes, anyone. Because you know, if you REALLY want something you’ll save up for it) to venture into space for a little while. As for the suits, you didn’t want to walk around in a fish bowl, did you?

NIce to know, sad to see here. Is it a car blog or what? Please, man! Hold it!!
