Updated VW Jetta Leaked Online Before December Premiere?

Three images have just leaked online, reportedly showing the updated Volkswagen Jetta before its global debut in December.

These pictures, sourced from Autologia, show that the new Jetta will look much more attractive than the outgoing model, largely thanks to its styling elements clearly inspired by both the Arteon and Phideon.

At the front, the new Jetta incorporates reshaped headlights which seamlessly connect to a new gloss black grille. Additionally, the updated car makes use of revised air intakes and a different lower grille. Something that also catches the eye up front are the prominent creases running vertically up the hood.

Unique design elements found at the sides include a sharp line running from the front wheel arch to the top of the taillights, while black door handles help contrast the white paint work. Completing the exterior modifications are new taillights and a subtle lip spoiler for the trunk lid.

No powertrain details about the next-generation Jetta are known at this stage.

    so chinese

Oh how wonderful. Yet another six window sedan. How many does that make now? [Maybe I’ll look into it!]

    • Six_Tymes

      count much?

      • Craig

        Almost every day!

  • DMJ

In Europe will be very nice for a taxi or police car.

  • Auf Wiedersehen

    Not liking what I see…

  • diesel_vdub

Side view looks like previous gen Camry.

  • Evo45

The front screams “no” at styling, rear is meh.

  • Arteon and Skoda up in there.. gotta feel sorry for the Jetta, feels “forgotten”..IMO

  • DM

I just took one look at the picture on top and thought: What kind of Chevy is this? Looks like it could be a Chevy or a new Ford Interceptor. Yikes!!

  • Six_Tymes

if i squint, the side view looks like a bmw 3 series

  • Matthew Raworth

I’ve heard they’re renaming it ‘virtus’

    • Markey

      did you say virus?

    • OdysseyTag

Correction: The Virtus is the replacement for the VW Polo Sedan / Vento in developing markets – unrelated to the upcoming Jetta.

  • Is that a Ford???

  • Markey

decent, though anonymous, side view. Odd front. Same old, same old rear.
As usual, they’ll manage to sell scores

  • LJ

If you blur your eyes a bit, it looks like a first gen Ford Taurus.

    • MarketAndChurch

I think it looks even more like the current-gen Chinese Taurus.

  • Kash

    nice Hyundai Sonata tail lights.

  • Holden

Volkswagens design team needs to be “redesigned” because whoever thought the Atlas, Tiguan XL, and now this wannabe Audi, needs to be fired. This is not the Jetta that I used to know and niether s the current one either

  • Subi-Rubicon1

Well this is very disappointing. The front looks like a rip off from Ford, side profile looks like 2010 Hyundai Sonata/ and the rear lamps from the current Hyundai Sonata. I’ve always been a fan of V-dubs, but with every generation it feels like they’re cheapening their brand image, its sad actually.

    • KidRed

You’re kidding about the tail lights, right? Hyundai got the shape from Audi which has had the angle cut since 2005 and it’s just a triangle section removed from the outgoing Jetta to get that shape.

      • Subi-Rubicon1

No, I’m not kidding. I disagree with your statement. Hyundai didn’t do just an angle cut as you’re suggesting, they did something a bit different, which makes it a different cut altogether. Remove a corner from a square and its no longer a square.

  • Blade t

Looks like a Ford fusion from the side….

  • Przemix

So is this golf 8 with trunk?

  • Matt

“While black door handles help contrast the white paint work”. C’mon, this is a pre-production model – there’s no way the door handles are actually going to be unpainted plastic.

In the same way it won’t be launched with black steel rims…

  • OdysseyTag

Probably the forth model VW has let leak this year… starting to wonder if it’s deliberate.

  • CarBrough

Hideous…how do you manage to make the new model look older than the old one?

  • getoffme

Audi finally pulled the wraps off the new Audi A8 black optik package!

  • dumblikeyou2

    Depressing.

  • DJ

its like a boring Hyundai Elantra.

  • MarketAndChurch

I don’t think this will be anything for anyone outside of China or developing markets.

    • Six Thousand Times

You’ve got a mild surprise coming.

  • S3XY

Geez that is super ugly and generic. Looks like a Sonata from the rear, Camry from the side and the ugly Malibu front end.

    Just awful.

  • Jesse A. C. Majors

Ok that looks like the last generation Toyota Camry

  • Six Thousand Times

Throw some nicer and shinier wheels on it and give it coat of metallic or pearlescent paint…maybe.

  • Harry_Wild

Look sharp! I would buy it if it were a midsize sedan instead of a compact!

  • A Sonata and A4 blended during teleportation…

  • Mindaugas Minikevičius

Maybe, this is the next generation Volkswagen Lavida for China?

  • Nicolas Trottier
