Last week, a Dodge Viper ACR set a blistering 7:03.45 second lap time around the Nurburgring while chasing an outright production car record attempt.

Before you bark and moan about that being over 10 seconds off the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, watch the video below and you’ll understand that this low 7-minute lap is still something to be commended, even if the driver, Dominik Farnbacher, believes the car has more pace up its sleeve.

The clip shows Farnbacher man-handling the brutal American supercar around the circuit, often with just one hand on the steering wheel as he shifts through the gears. Thanks to the car’s incredible aero package, it steers through sweeping corners at mind-blowing speeds and sounds so much more old school than the hypercars we’ve recently seen lapping the German circuit.

The team behind the crowdfunded campaign say that they will return to the circuit in August if they can raise enough money to support another record attempt.
