Aw That’s Cute: Mercedes-AMG GT S Jumps The Gun Against Bugatti

While the Mercedes-AMG GT S is one of the quickest and most popular cars right now, you really do need to cheat in order to outrun a hypercar in one.

Remember back in the first Fast and Furious movie when Dom talked about 10 second cars? “For those ten seconds or less, I’m free” – said the now apparently indestructible character.

Well, he would have loved himself a Veyron in that case, since that’s exactly what the Bugatti is, a car that will run a 1/4 mile in roughly 10 seconds flat, unlike the AMG GT S, which needs more than 11 seconds to do it in perfect conditions.

The Mercedes relies on 510 PS (503 HP) in order to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds, with 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque providing the pull. In other words, it’s got half the power of the Veyron, while weighing less by only about 245 kg (540 lbs).

Sure, it’s a big difference in weight if you want to get technical, but not big enough to offset the massive difference in power, which is delightfully evident in the video below.

sit the F down mercedes lmfao xD

  • Daily Driver vs Insane

I’d rather own the Mercedes-AMG GT S as you only have search for the next gas station versus having to own one with the Bugatti.

    • SteersUright

Given just the price difference, I’d take the AMG GTC and pocket the $1million+ remaining.

  • Polyester Poontang

Didn’t anyone at Carscoops look at this before posting?

  • Pete Moss

    I want my minute back.

  • SteersUright

Wow, only next to another incredibly fast car does the insane speed of a Bugatti become utterly apparent to me.

  • Auf Wiedersehen

    That was never a race….

  • Trackhacker

What’s the point of racing automatic cars. It’s not like you can perfect your shifts better. The computer does everything for you including the launch.

    • Status

Because you can’t outshift an automatic with a stick. That, and newer DSG have variable ratios that can ‘learn’.

The only reason you’d want to use an stick would be if you had a masochist desire to lose a race.
