BMW Concept X7 iPerformance Is A 7-Series SUV [40 Pics + Video]

Following a major leak a few days ago, BMW has finally released all the details on the X7 iPerformance concept, a near-production preview of its upcoming 2018 SUV flagship model.

Offering seating for six passengers, the new X7 iPerformance concept’s interior is introducing the brand’s new direction when it comes to luxury, blending simple lines with high-quality materials and the latest tech features available. The production version is expected to offer room for seven.

The exterior also reveals the new design choices BMW will make for its new SUV range. The front end is dominated by the latest version of the kidney grille, which now stands bigger and taller. Together with the slim headlights, the face of the BMW X7 is indicative of what to expect from future Bavarian SUVs.

The concept measures 5020mm in length, 2020mm in width and 1800mm in height, making it 113mm longer, 82mm wider and 37mm higher than the current BMW X5, with the wheelbase being 76mm longer, at 3010mm.

Power comes from a plug-in hybrid powertrain, with BMW only revealing that a petrol TwinPower engine sits at its heart and that it offers a long driving range in its all-electric mode. Reports suggest that the engine in question is the four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo unit that’s also found in the 740e xDrive iPerformance.

“Since BMW founded the Sports Activity Vehicle segment with the first X5 back in 1999, every subsequent X vehicle has broken new ground,” said Ian Robertson, Member of the BMW AG Management Board responsible for Sales and Brand BMW.

“The BMW X7 continues this tradition: the X family’s new top model extends BMW’s offering in the luxury class and redefines the concept of luxury for the BMW brand and beyond. Furthermore, the BMW Concept X7 demonstrates it’s perfectly possible to combine a large sports activity vehicle with an electrified drivetrain.”

    Usch
SsangYong or a bad chines copy!
If you wan’t 7 set you need a minivan. You can add 4w. drive and ground clearance if you want.

too much chrome for my tastebuds

Why is one door handle longer than the others??

i’m asking myself. why the g11 7 series interior couldn’t look like that….

  • Andrewthecarguy

    Massive, brutal and beautiful.
Side and rear remind of the new LX570.
This X7 will sell exceedingly well.
    Congrats BMW!

    • seriously

the side looks like a stretched X5…….not a Landcruiser with an ugly front end

      • Mynameis Taylor

I agree. I doesn’t look like a Lexus. It looks like a BMW. Yes, the rear lights are horizontal, like the Lexus, but it’s pretty much elongated real lights of the new bmw design language …fucking ugly

  • ErnieB

Still ugly..hopefully the production version is salvageable..

  • Kash

Well there’s still hope for the production version to look better, after all look at the Z4 and 8 series concept cars vs the shots we’re seeing of the production cars and the concepts look really over styled. Even looking at the camo’d X7 they’ve been running around looks nothing like this concept other than general shape and size.

  • Auf Wiedersehen

Great! Now you need a flowing pant-suit and a helipad!

  • Tumbi Mtika

I never I’d end up saying something like this.

BMW should ask Cadillac for an exercise in restraint. The Escalade looks miles more refined and cohesive than this weird Lexus with it nostrils open, ready to snort all the cocaine possible.

“The Escalade looks miles more refined and cohesive than this weird Lexus with it nostrils open, ready to snort all the cocaine possible.”

You make that sound like it’s a bad thing. 😉

Why is the double- kidney grill so big? I don’t like it. And I hate the grey line with that right angle before the front wheel. Ugly.

Nose is ugly as hell. Looks like a boar hog. I do like the back though.

  • donald seymour

I absolutely love it! Hand downs. I love the unique art deco look of the front grille. BMW, if you are reading this (which I know you are) continue with the design and don’t listen to all the haters.

  • ediotsavant

Lol. Even BMW is in the oversized grille trend.

  • disqus_83g6mJmr6l

looks so luxurious! seems like RR new Cullinan chassis lurks underneath

  • Tinky-Winky

Oblong grille may have looked good in the past but not on modern BMWs.

  • BlackPegasus
  • gary4205

    Hideous. Absolutely hideous.

  • Bob

And BMW relentlessly marches on as their mission of desensitizing us to ugliness reaches untold heights.

  • TheBelltower

There are a lot of things I like about this. But there are also a lot of really horsey looking elements that no designer should have ever let see the light of day. The grille design is not good. It looks like a cartoon pig that’s ready to pounce. The vertical front strakes emphasizes the height, which doesn’t seem necessary. And, along with with the vertical side vent, they crudely bookend the front wheel… like two L-brackets or two parenthesis.

  • PlonPlon

    Volvo?!

    • ErnieB

Don’t insult the xc90 please.. lol

  • Craig

I like it! But it is somewhat familiar. It reminds me of several other SUV’s. But then… I guess that’s more likely than not given how many are being made now.

  • fabri99

I quite dig the overall design, I just don’t see BMW making such a large SUV. The X5 has always been about saloon-like driveability and composure, BMW’s take on the sport utility. An SUV this big may have to sacrifice a little on driving pleasure and overall stability and I think that may hurt BMW’s image. Or at least clash with their philosophy…

  • sean tooher

    why ….

  • DM

My guess is the grill will be toned down, the headlights will be bigger, and second row captain chairs will be optional. It’s not that hard to imagine it as an oversized X5 which is already beautiful.

  • klowik

The PRoduction will not have the big-ass kidney grille.

  • Six Thousand Times

    A big brown trout.

  • Mynameis Taylor

BMW’S current design language, is “blah” and “eww” combined

  • Blanka Li
  • Enter Ranting

    An ugly Escalade. Or, Ug-scalade.

  • Stemider

Terrible. Looks more like a minivan than SUV. bad things happen to BMW design language.

  • bkkofw

    Monstrous!

  • Robert

BMW is now pilfering Cadillac light-pipe design too. Interesting
