Front-Drive Super-Hatches: VW Golf GTI Clubsport S vs Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R

Hot hatches don’t come much more capable than these two: the VW Golf GTI Clubsport S versus the 2014 Renault Megane RS Trophy-R.

The French hot hatch may be out of production but many believe that no rival could ever beat it in outright fun up until the day it went out of production. This one however is the limited 275 Trophy-R version, a balls-to-the-wall stripped version of the standard model which kickstarted the whole Nurburgring lap record theme.

It was considered the GT3 RS of the hot hatches and that tells everything you wanted to know about the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R.

The Golf GTI Clubsport S on the other hand was a big surprise from VW, given that the Germans were never really into hardcore track-oriented versions of the talented Golf GTI. But they did it anyway, proving that they know how to build a proper track weapon out of a Golf.

How does the older Megane stack up against the mighty Golf? We’ll have to watch evo magazine’s latest video to find out.

      Renault is not available in the ‘States, but my personal experiences with VW would lead me to believe that the GTI could win that race.
