Michael Jordan’s Mercedes-Benz SLR 722 Hits Auto Trader

A Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition once owned by basketball great Michael Jordan is currently for sale on Auto Trader.

With an asking price of $625,000, the car is far from cheap but beyond having a particularly famous former owner, it is arguably the king of all SLR models (excluding the Stirling Moss).

Introduced three years after the standard SLR, the 722 Edition adopted significantly bolder bodywork, including a new carbon fiber front splitter, enlarged air extractors on the hood, a tweaked grille, distinctive wheels and a more prominent rear diffuser. Additionally, power from the supercharged 5.4-liter V8 was upped from the standard 617 hp to 641 hp.

The seller doesn’t mention if Jordan purchased his 722 new or if he picked it up second hand. Whatever was the case, he rarely drove it, as evidenced by the fact that it only has 1,038 miles under its belt.

Just think of what you could buy for $625,000.

I’ll pass. But hey! Help yourself!

What’s sad is that the same dealership is asking $70k more for a black 722 Edition with almost 4x the miles. Supposedly 1 of only 3 in black but the only one in obsidian black with cream interior.

Actually, I find the early SLRs to be way more fascinating and desireable. The 722 must be a better car overall, yet I’d have a “standard” version instead.

Sounds like Jordan bought it and just parked it..Looks nice but needs a wheel update ….

  • lagunas3ca

722 Edition has the ugliest aftermarket-looking wheels I have ever seen. I would expect to see those wheels on a Celica. The standard SLR wheels have a much sharper and unique design.
