New Kia Proceed Concept Is A Sexy Shooting Brake That Previews The Next Pro_Cee’d

It seems that Kia is looking to part ways with the classic look of the first two generations Pro_Cee’d, as the third one will be wrapped under an entirely new design.

That car is previewed by the Proceed Concept, which was unveiled ahead of its 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show premiere, but for whatever reason, the automaker refuses to use the words ‘Shooting Brake’ when talking about its sleek shape.

Instead, it describes it as an “extended hot hatch” that combines “a striking visual presence with a dash of real-world versatility”. Its presence is highlighted by a very attractive profile, with a sloping roofline, missing B pillars, short front overhang, and 20-inch wheels. The Stinger-like front end, muscular proportions, distinctive design cues, GT logo, and Lava Red paintwork also dominate its look.

Drivers are greeted by an illuminated outline of the study’s glasshouse as they approach the car, as this feature serves as “a powerful nocturnal visual identified” that accentuates its shape.

“With many European drivers now seeking performance alternatives to the three-door hot hatch, we began thinking about a different halo model for the Cee’d family”, said the company’s Europe Chief Designer, Gregory Guillaume. “The Proceed Concept represents a bold new vision of how the vibrant soul of the Pro_Cee’d could be reincarnated and revitalized for a new generation of performance-oriented drivers.”

Besides the exciting-looking show car, Kia will also present the new Stonic subcompact crossover at Frankfurt, next week, alongside the facelifted Sorento, and Picanto X-Line.

VERY NICE!! Now make it EXACTLY like that. Don’t water it down!

    • Exactly. This is my beef with car brands, if Kia really did make it EXACTLY like that it would be a game-changer.

OK, maybe add wing mirrors 🙂

  • Shtekeris

Dayum! If this the next Cee’d, then this just may be the most beautiful car in segment.

  • MultiKdizzle

Nice concept. Still don’t like the tiger nose. Better than the Stinger, however.

  • Tinky-Winky

“but for whatever reason, the automaker refuses to use the words ‘Shooting Brake’ when talking about its sleek shape.” Because it is not a shooting brake, dear Carscoops.

    • Luc Helterbrand

exactly! Its shape is of an estate or wagon (or if you must, an extended hatchback)…and a coupe has two doors not four. Stop trying to make something more “exciting” by using the wrong descriptor, Carscoops!

    • Zed68

It seems the whole world of car blogs, websites and facebook car pages have forgotten what a shooting brake is !

  • Infinite1

Kia went from compact hatch to a possible A7/S7 competitor.

  • Rocket

Simply gorgeous! But unless the Cee’d is switching to a RWD layout, the production version’s proportions won’t be remotely similar. Still, I applaud the styling effort. Now about that Stinger wagon …

    • eb110americana

What he said. Seriously, if I were getting a family car, I’d kick every single crossover and SUV out for a Stinger Wagon–which is basically what this is. Maybe “Sport Wagon” with that hatch rake.

  • U8INIT

    That profile is the shit….

  • Bash

  • no25

Well done, Kia! There really isn’t anything wrong with it at all – just hope production is very similar

  • Sybill Julian

looks very good except those porsche’s 4 point square led drls

  • Six_Tymes

if this were production, id buy one for sure. this design is amazing, especially the profile

  • Six Thousand Times

It does look RWD in plain view.

  • Navy P. Morroccan ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

It’s kinda mediocre in my book. I am not a fan of the symmetrical shapes or the design.

  • atomiccow

A stunning design. Kia/Hyundai are really hitting their stride this generation. Full props to Schreyer and Guillaume and also to Kia/Hyundai for actually letting these guys call some shots.

I’ve no issue with the Stinger’s front end as it is, but the front end of this would have fit it even better.

I wonder if this concept means the next Pro C’eed will be spun off into a semi-bespoke car like what happened to the WRX. The concept itself seems far too large to be related to the C’eed as we know it now.

  • nastinupe

    Side = 10, back = 10, front = 7

  • Kash

Looks like a stinger wagon from the front.

  • Honda NSX-R

    Looks great!

  • john1168

This concept looks fantastic! It even has rear wheel drive proportions. If KIA makes the production version of this front wheel drive then I would estimate it to be 80% accurate. Give or take a few percent. KIA may want to consider a Shooting Brake Stinger…

  • Rich Money

    super beautiful.

only downside is no-one could actually build a production car that resembles this, Kia or otherwise.

  • Tumbi Mtika

“for whatever reason, the automaker refuses to use the words ‘Shooting Brake’ when talking about its sleek shape…”

Well that’s because it’s NOT a Shooting Brake.

Has Mercedes corrupted you, or are you just not a car person?

  • Big Black Duck

Kia and hyundai have come a long way in such a short time… but please change your stupid logo Kia

  • Tumbi Mtika

    Proceed, Kia!

In making a Stinger Sports tourer, perhaps?

  • Enter Ranting

Lose a couple of the goofy details up front, and we have a deal.

  • Pickles

Exceptional. It has verve, a connection to the road with horizontal (not cheesy swoopy) lines and it looks double the price of any BMW or Audi. Well played. The challenge, Kia, is to keep it JUST AS IT IS. They completely failed with the transition from the KV7 concept to the 10-year-old looking Sedona. Hold the line Kia. Just do it.

Gorgeous and that front dash to axle ratio screams rwd! One could only hope

  • Ketika Ranjan

Just looking like the sister of maybach. At the initial I supposed that its something from Mercedes.
