Porsche Panamera Turbo Duels Merc-AMG E63 S In High Speed Sprint

Even though the new Panamera Turbo is one of the fastest-launching four-door cars in the world, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S is not only more powerful, but also lighter.

So, will that be enough though to have it impose its will over the much-celebrated and more expensive new Panamera? That’s exactly what the guys from EVO wanted to find out.

They wanted to see not only if the E63 S will beat the Panamera Turbo in a short straight line race, but also by how much, being that there’s a sizable difference in both horsepower and torque to consider.

On paper, here’s how it looks: 612 PS (604 HP) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) for the E63 S, and 550 PS (542 HP) and 770 Nm (567 lb-ft) for the Porsche. The Mercedes is also half a second quicker to 100 km/h (62 mph), while weighing 115 kg (253 lbs) less.

During this drag race, EVO found that both cars hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in exactly 3.4 seconds, with slight separation occurring once they started accelerating past 100 mph (160 km/h).

While the standing 1/4 mile times were extremely close, their 0-160 mph (257 km/h) times weren’t. Also, if you’re curious to know how the two compare on a track, check out this review.

whatever, i’d still buy the Panamera over the E-Class any day

    • Adi

      I wouldn’t.

    • jaykit

Agreed, if money was no issue. Day to day the Panamera is the one to own. Larger interior, quieter, better materials quality & appointments.

      • Maher

Larger interior yet it is a 4 seated sedan lol
And better quality? You obviously missed the part where Porsche is known for their terrible reliability scores?

        • jaykit

Go sit in both and drive both. Not on the internet but in reality. Let me know how you feel after actually doing that. Strongly doubt you will leave your keyboard though. As for four seats or not who cares? I have a family of three, not the Brady Bunch.

          • Maher

Just because you say you test drove both, doesn’t mean you actually did that, that’s one. I could tell you what I drive and what I test drove recently, but I don’t care much to do so, as I will sound as if I’m bluffing, just like the way you sound now.
Two, I don’t care how big your family is, you said it has a larger interior, and that isn’t the case, so your deflecting isn’t helping your case bud.
Three, even without testing both of them, all that cheap Cadillac like, capacitive buttons that fills the car, makes it a whole lot cheaper than the E Class’s interior. I’m not the biggest fan of Mercedes, but I would take that interior any day over the Panamera’s interior.

          • jaykit

Panamera yes, AMG E Class no. Regular E Class yes but was not impressed. Didn’t mean to get you worked up. Have a good night.

          • Maher

Nah trust me, you didn’t. Getting personal with your reply then saying I’m the one who got worked up? Lol
            You’re funny my friend.

There is the ugliness of the Panamera to add. Reminds me of an old Ford Taurus body.
