Tesla Model X Door Torn Off After Opening In The Path Of Truck

A Tesla Model X’s driver door has been destroyed after allegedly opening by itself in Sydney, Australia.

Yesterday, the white Model X was parked on the side of a busy road when the front doors opened as a large truck approached. The truck driver was unable to react and smashed through the door, destroying it and almost ripping it from the electric SUV.

Speaking to 9 News, the car’s owner, Sam Kovac said he was in a veterinary clinic at the time of the incident and didn’t have the key on him at the time.

However, Tesla has refuted Kovac’s claims and suggests that he had enabled an optional feature which allowed the front doors to open if the key fob is pressed four times.

In a statement, the automaker said “Our data records clearly show that the customer had this feature set to ‘on’ at the time of the incident.”

Despite Tesla’s claims, Kovac insists that he did not press the key fob to open the doors.

      He’s already here.

      • smartacus

he’s got clones all over the place

  • Six_Tymes

he parked way out in the street, then opened the door right when the buss was there. any door would have gotten torn off.

Hot tip: read the entire article.

    • smartacus

That’s what i was about to write:
He is way further than the 12 inch limit from the curb.

  • Craig

It took me a moment or two to rethink ‘driver door’!

  • benT

standard regular item – happens everywhere so, why is it news??
how many dead from opening their car door into oncoming traffic??
How many (bi- and motor-) cyclists have had a car door open on them? ………and so on………….

    • Timo

Breaking news: he wasn´t in the car while it happened.

  • Carmelo Van Cabboi

People is starting to be to lazy to open even a car door. More and more apps makes our brain lazier day by day

  • ediotsavant

    Everyone is watching you.

  • Knotmyrealname

You can lie, but the data tells the truth. Sorry Sam.

  • salamOOn

because we really need automatic doors, right….

  • Dennis James

You mean, you cannot open only one door ??

    • Knotmyrealname

Yes, of course you can open one at a time. Yet more evidence that poor old Sam is at fault.

      • Enter Ranting

You’re right – he is at fault. He bought a ridiculous vehicle.

  • Auf Wiedersehen

It may have not been quite as bad if any contact at all if the guy had parked on the curb like he should’ve. If you look at the car parked ahead of him, you can clearly see he’s barely out of the driving lane. Sorry dude…you are a very well off piss poor driver.

  • wait a minute

The sensors in the Tesla remote failed to activate the ‘idiot Driver’ override feature.

  • KSegg

Maybe the Model X was depressed.

  • mind of its own I see..

  • Ron

Teslas seem to have a hard time seeing semi trucks.

  • Enter Ranting

Even if it was set to “on,” what a stupid feature! Has manually opening a car door become THAT much of an ordeal for people?

  • Where is that video ???

  • bahahahahaha

Wouldnt have happened if he didnt buy a SHIT car lmao hahahahaha

  • Hacker

Now tell me remote hacking is a wet dream.
