Would You Take An Old CL63 Over The New S63 Coupe For Half The Price?

If you’re in the market for a two-door luxury coupe and don’t feel like breaking the bank for a brand new or even slightly used Mercedes-AMG S63 Coupe, the older CL63 might be the next best thing.

While this CL63 AMG review from Vehicle Virgins is actually more of a comparison test, unfortunately we don’t get to see the S63 Coupe next to its older sibling, which is a bummer when trying to work out which is better looking.

Looks aside (which are debatable anyway), there’s no doubting the fact that the S63 Coupe is the more advanced car, as pointed out in the video.

Not only is the newer model jam packed with modern-day features, it also has a more luxurious and technologically advanced interior, although the CL63 is by no means lacking in luxury and quality.

The goal of this video was to figure out if you can actually end up happier with the CL63 for half the price of a used S63 Coupe, and in many ways, you might. However, you will have to accept the fact that you won’t get off the line as quickly as you would with an S63. Once you do that, you might actually enjoy driving the CL63 more, which is what happened here.

  • WITHOUT WATCHING THIS GUY I CAN SAY YES. THE CL WAS A CLEAN CLASSIC DESIGN.

    • europeon

      Agree.
And you shouldn’t watch him. He’s one of the worst youtubers out there (tie with demuro.)

      • Shobin Drogan

Doug’s videos are education. He shows features that other car reviewers don’t. I don’t trust his perception on vehicle dynamics. But his reviews on car features and quirks are why his videos are popular. This guy on the other hand is just a prick.

  • KenjiK

Yes i would. I like it more than the S Coupe.

  • Bananarama

Nope. The current S coupe is stunning. Maybe the best designed Merc in the last 15 years.

  • pcurve

oh god this guy’s intonation grates me. The new S couple looks much better inside and out. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the CL has more expensive materials inside. Mercedes has been skimping out on material quality, even thought they ‘appear’ to be high quality.

    • Josh Kim

Well, when it come to their more mainstream cars, yes that’s true. But not on their flagship cars such as the S class.

  • An Existing Person

The CL is shaping to be a timeless beauty, but the new S-Class Coupe is just another level.

  • p00pman

    Sure

  • Galaxium

don’t post this dude’s garbage channel

annoying voice and asshole attitude. He fucked up Rob Dahm’s RX7 and didn’t pay shit.

his content offers nothing of value other than picking some flashy cars for the views.

  • Bash

    Yes, I would.

  • fabri99

It really isn’t… THAT cheap. I mean, I loved the old CL, but I’d like to spend at least $20,000 less for a used example. Who’s the hell is this guy though?

  • SteersUright

The ONLY REASON to buy the older CL is that you can’t afford the newer S Coupe. MB has upped their game so far and away from the older car that sitting in one and then the other, the older CL feels like an antique. Where the older CL is still handsome and capable, the new S-coupe is stunning and on another level. Oh, and one look at this dudes face and I’m not watching the video.
