2019 Audi Q3 Scooped In Europe, Could Offer Plug-in Hybrid And EV Variants

The Audi Q3 is getting a little long-in-tooth but that’s about to change as spy photographers have snapped photos of an all-new model.

Expected to debut in late 2018 or early 2019, the redesigned crossover follows in the footsteps of its larger counterparts as it adopts a wider grille and a more upscale design. The camouflage hides a number of styling details but we can see the model will have a relatively low hood and slender headlights.

Moving further back, there’s an upward sweeping beltline, a prominent rear pillar, and a sloping roof. Other notable features a rakish rear window, a tailgate-mounted spoiler, and familiar taillights.

Audi has been tight-lipped about the next-generation model but previous reports have suggested the Q3 be about 2.3 inches (5.8 cm) longer than its predecessor. Perhaps the biggest change will be a switch from the old PQ35 architecture to the more modern MQB platform that underpins an assortment of different vehicles. The change is expected to improve comfort and drivability as well as result in a weight loss of around 110 lbs (50 kg).

Engine options are expected to echo those offered in the Volkswagen Tiguan and include everything from an entry-level 1.5-liter four-cylinder to a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder producing around 400 PS (298 kW). Plug-in hybrid and electric variants have also been rumored and the later is expected to have a range of up to 186 miles (299 km) on a single charge.
