Chery Heading To Europe With A Fleet Of EVs

Chinese automaker Chery is working on a plan to enter the European market with a range of electrified vehicles.

Recently speaking with Autocar, Chery chief executive Anning Chen said every model the brand brings to Europe will be electrified and “either micro-hybrid, hybrid or plug-in hybrid,” he said. Additionally, Chen confirmed there will be BEV (battery electric vehicles) in the company’s range.

The first Chery to land on European soil in 2019 or 2020 will be the TX, sold under a new brand dubbed Exeed. The vehicle is a large SUV with five seats and was shown off at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month in plug-in hybrid guise. This version utilizes a battery that’s approximately 12 kWh in capacity which allows for an all-electric range of approximately 43 miles.

When sales of the Exeed TX commence, the SUV will be available with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch.

It remains to be seen what other vehicles Chery intends on selling in Europe.

This looks very good, but the small side windows, while giving an athletic appearance, will feel very claustrophobic for passengers (see the Hyundai Tucson, to which it resembles, except this is worse than the Hyundai).

But…this is a moot point anyway. Chinese cars are rarely fit for Europe security-wise, and I really wouldn’t want to have a huge Li-Ion battery under my car with Chinese quality-assurance…especially on any kind of collision.

I’m not an SUV guy, but that thing looks pretty nice from a design POV.

Hyundai SantaFe with a Lexus grill. How Exeed-ingly original ?

      I hope it’s exeed-ingly affordable cause it’s exeed-ingly enticing!

I saw this thing in the flesh in Frankfurt. Didn’t spend so much time around it but I did notice the paint peeled clean off when I touched it with my fingernail. Not exactly the best first impression.

LOL…that’s a lie….but I’d still buy it even if there was an element of truth in what you said …so much ill will towards Chinese manufactures that it’s so sad and pathetic. The more the manufactures the better for consumers, The Tiggo seems to have done quiet well for the brand that I’d take a leap of faith and buy into their products if they come with a compelling Warranty & Maintenance plan. I’m sure the Japanese, just as the Koreans were subject to so much prejudice and scrutiny with their products so I expect this kind of belittlement towards their product offerings.

Not at all. I was very impressed with the Wey SUVs on the show, on the other hand. The quality was great, and I did pull in every panel and button, and the price is very low. They both looked great too, very imposing.

It occurs to me you might have been a bit sarcastic, but still 🙂
