Forget The Bugatti, The Dubai Police Unveil Their New Hoverbike

The Dubai Police are known for their fleet of high-performance supercars including a Bugatti Veyron and Lamborghini Aventador but their latest acquisition is a hoverbike.

Created by Hoversurf, the bike is essentially a combination of a drone, motorcycle, and helicopter. According to the department, the hoverbike can reach altitudes of up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) and hit speeds of 70 km/h (43 mph).

The hoverbike can carry up to 300 kg (661 lbs) and operate for approximately 20-25 minutes on electricity. It remains unclear how the bike will be used but the department suggested it could see service doing traffic duty and helping to ease congestion.

While it doesn’t look like the safest police vehicle on the market, Hoversurf says the model successfully passed a number of tests to ensure it can operate in extreme conditions. This is critical as the bike will be forced to deal with extreme heat and dust.

Interestingly enough, the hoverbike can be remotely controlled and effectively become a large drone. In this mode, the bike apparently has a range of up to 6 km (3.7 miles).

Besides showing the hoverbike, the police department unveiled a “smart bike” which has been equipped with eight cameras that provide a 360° view around the motorcycle. The electric bike can hit speeds of 200 km/h (124 mph) and can be used for up to eight hours at a time.

Yeah. Just like the carbon fiber wheels use technology invented 5500 years ago: the wheel.

Instead of police brutality, you get accidental decapitations. Seems legit.

      I’d give you a minute’s head start…

EMERGENCY? No problem! As your trusted police force, we will just need to put our protective flight suits on, rush to the tarmac out back, receive flight clearance, ensure the flight machinery is operating appropriately, and then we are ON OUR WAY! We’ll see you in 30 minutes!

  • Six Thousand Times

    Dammit, I want a hoverbike!

The United States Army tested something similar 50 years ago.

Falling into the blade (singular) was enough of a problem/concern, the project was shelved.

This thing has THREE blades to chop anyone dumb enough to ride it into really small pieces.
