Looks Like BMW’s Working On An M3 CS To Send Off The F80

The current BMW 3 Series is on its way out. That means the M3 along with it. But before it’s gone, BMW appears to be working on a more hardcore version to serve as the performance sedan’s swan song.

Pictured fueling up in between test runs at the Nürburgring is what appears to be a new M3 CS. And while part of its bodywork is wrapped up in camouflage, it’s not hard to imagine what’s underneath.

That’s because BMW already offers a CS version of the M3’s coupe counterpart, the M4. So what we’re likely looking at here is the same treatment applied to the four-door F80 model.

That should mean a 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight six beefed up by 29 horsepower and 37 lb-ft of torque over the standard M4 to a good 454 hp and 442 lb-ft. A lightweight aero kit also looks to be part of the package, with upgraded suspension, rolling stock, and brakes to go with it.

The paparazzi at CarPix anticipate the new M3 CS to be unveiled at the Geneva show next March, but BMW doesn’t usually wait for a major show to present its latest metal – so don’t be surprised to see the thing surface long before then.

The F10 and F30 are going to down as the worst BMWs in some time.

lol what? The F1- M5 was good, but not great, but the F80, (not F30, that is the non-M 3-Series), is one of the BEST M3’s of all time.

A-WHAT? Have you actually driven one? How can you jump into conclusion that F8x is the worst BMW in some time? Did you not remember about 2-Series GT?

      Based upon what evidence?

You said it. Too damn large, clumsy chassis, cheapo interior, turbo engine (goodbye super high revving ITB motors) and nowhere near the nimbleness the M-car legend was built around. I’ve read BMW had to make quick concessions to meet ever-more strict Euro emissions and haven’t quite mastered it yet, with the F10/F30 being the first to receive all the new tech applications. Im sure the next gen will quickly rectify many of these flaws. I just wish they’d offer something more unique than turbo inline-6 in their M-cars. Those engines lack the personality and theatre needed in true sports cars like BMW M used to offer.

I agree. Current M5 is too big and looks BIG too. M3-4, are under powered. Audi & Merc destroy them on road and track.

The F10 and F30 will go down as BMW’s worst platforms in some time.

Is it already time to “send it off”? They’ve just managed to fix it with the Competition Package, it’s a shame to let it go already… Anyway, I can’t wait to see what they can come up with on this CS model.

BMW should make a CSL model for the M2 and maybe the M4. I won’t hold my breath though.

Can’t wait to see the F-generation 3-series gone. Too big, too clumsy, too soft, feel more like rear-drive Camry’s than true BMW’s. The M3/M4, super expensive CS included, have received nothing but bad reviews since being launched. In fact, a MotorTrend video review I recently saw picked a Camaro 1LE over an M4, etc., thats not very inspiring.

Why bother with the camouflage? They all look the same, boring.
