Mazda Vision Concept Looks Like A Proper Four-Door Supercar [63 Pics]

Following the striking Kai concept, Mazda’s Vision Coupe kept everyone impressed with its dynamic design, representing the next chapter in the company’s KODO design language.

The bodywork conforms to the golden ratio of a classic coupe design, with the cabin positioned toward the rear of the car while the flowing, clean lines make the Vision Coupe look like it’s moving forward when stationary.

Mazda purposely opted for an exterior design that’s free of all non-essential elements while focusing on classic traits like the prominent shoulder line and body sides that present linear transitions in different lights and shadows.

The same atmosphere is present inside, where Mazda used the traditional Japanese architectural concept of ma in order to make passengers feel embraced and not confined. A big center console runs across the length of the cabin and features a touch-sensitive surface next to the driver for controlling the infotainment system while the dashboard adopts the same minimalistic approach with the smaller Kai concept.

The Vision Coupe concept is the second big sports design study after the RX Vision, which should indicate Mazda’s will to add a new sports model to its range. Whether they pull the trigger however is something that sadly has to wait for a later date.

  • In this corner…

Mazda came back swinging a few years ago and hasn’t stopped with the knockouts ever since.

    • alexxx

      And that is a fact….you couldn’t describe it better…

    • Vassilis

If only they had some nice, small, turbocharged engines for Europe.

  • Dennis Scipio

I’m jealous and Impressed by Mazda’s designs at the same time >:)

  • Ermal Morina

    Looks absolutely amazing.Well done Mazda

  • John

the front is amazing. the back can use a little more work and reminds me of RX7.
yellow day time running light looks pretty good too

  • Enter Ranting

Styling “free of all non-essential elements.” Other car companies should take a page from the Mazda playbook. This car is stunning.

  • javier

will it have the 2 liter zoom zoom motor that makes 154 horsepower lol, all show and no go and they all fawn over the look, they can’t shut up about the beauty of it yet mazda hasn’t made a fast car in ages

    • leviathansh

184 horsepower on the touring and grand touring version. I know that there it´s faster cars out there, but these are the standard versions of mazda, not an special version more expensive.

    • renesis 16x

You know this is a concept, right?

    • Matthijs

Who buys these fast cars.. ? Why should build Mazda MPS models when they don’t sell much of it. Mazda is only a small company which is not doing so well in Europe and lots of other places.

      • alexxx

I see lots of mazdas where I live (Europe),not sure they are not doing so well here..

        • Matthijs

As far as I know they do well in Canada, Israel and Australia. And Japan isn’t bad either.

  • disqus_83g6mJmr6l

Pure beauty! (ALFA’s should look like this,Jag’s,Maserati’s)

  • lagunas3ca

    Aston Martin should be scared.

    • John

      of Mazda’s sub 200hp engine? I don’t think so.

      • Carmaker1

LOL, too accurate. Remember that the 2.5T does put out…250.

    • OdysseyTag

      Everyone should be scared.

  • disqus_83g6mJmr6l
    • John

eeewww… get that alfa romeo logo off.

    • LWOAP

      What have you done?

      • disqus_83g6mJmr6l

Was Trying to make a point

        • Mat

          But you failed

    • Tumbi Mtika

      Nope. This belongs to Hiroshima.

  • Bash

    What a brilliant concept!

  • Toronado_II

This small manufacturer has a better design studio than a lot of giant car maker !

    • MarketAndChurch

All of Ford’s former brands have the best design studios (Volvo, Land Rover – jaguar, Mazda).

      • donald seymour

Come to think about it, you’re right.

        • Tumbi Mtika

          Ford effect…

          • Nihar

I would say that Ford makes the best designs in the non-luxury segment. All they need is European Ford quality.

  • john1168

VERY nice! Simple and clean design yet very stylish. Nice interior too. Hey Mazda! If you build this give it over 350hp and at least make AWD an option!

  • FlameWater

I’ll be ROFL if this is FWD

    • Leconte Dave

      And probably underpower

  • Six_Tymes

  • OdysseyTag

Hands down one of the cars of the show along with the smaller Kai Concept. What Mazda shows in its design language today I’m sure any top European design house would not only be proud to have made but also emulate.

    • Carmaker1

And does it have to be a European design house? Can’t Mazda embrace their Japanese heritage, without it being credited to another region? I thought that’s why they committed to the creation of Kodo design language in 2009.

      • OdysseyTag

Absolutely. Hence why I mentioned it might be something they’d wanna emulate. But beyond automotive design, Europe has always been a catalyst for artistic movements, study and influence. So when we look at new Hyundai’s and Kia’s in awe, do we see design that is inherently South Korean or are we impressed by how European designers have been able to assimilate said vehicles more closer to what they see as benchmarks in industry?

Having said that, Japanese have always had their own approach to design and what makes Mazda’s Kodo design language so successful I think is that it has evolutionary prowess – something which can translate fluidicly amoungst their range and can be enhanced incrementally without loosing it’s aesthetic. Lexus is another example of that (albeit a more polarising one).

  • Nordschleife

It is sexy and no doubt will it translate well as a road car but Mazda has to come out swinging. By that i mean a car with enough noise insulation, the infotainment system that it is working on in conjunction with Toyota and the Skyactive 2.0 that makes decent power. Some ventilated seats wouldn’t hurt either.

    • Obsequious Lickspittle

Some ventilated seats wouldn’t hurt either.
I know, right? It’s NOTHING without those.

  • U8INIT

Make this your 929 and let the chips fall where they may…

    • Nihar

A Mazda 9 Return would be beautiful!

  • LJ

A preview of the next Mazda 6?

    • Carmaker1

I hope so, but it seems like a unicorn to me with Toyoda possibly having a say in that.

  • Nick099

    Stunningly beautiful.
    Bravo Mazda!

  • SteersUright

Stunning!! Make this and tell me when I can place my deposit!! Don’t have this “inspire” the next Mazda 6 please. Mazda, you need a proper halo car and a rear-drive sedan that looks like this could cement that role.

  • klowik

Mazda concept looks stunning but they will never come into reality.

  • Big Black Duck

what a beauty…looks timeless…all those European designs looks so lame next to this

  • Bugatti Andrea Ettore

    future mazda six rwd??.

    • Bugatti Andrea Ettore

      oh, mazda millenia rwd??

    • Carmaker1

Something tells me, that there is some truth to it, but why would they go in that direction is my question? Return on investment seems very risky with the Mazda brand name in this arena and Toyota will not favour use of their new rear wheel drive GA-L architecture for a Mazda application to spiritually resurrect Amati.

Nor will Toyota’s aging “New N” platform prove useful to Mazda by 2020.

  • AstonMartin

Masterpiece. Can’t stop staring at this handsome concept.

  • Vassilis

    Stunning car.

  • Tumbi Mtika

    We need a new Millenia.

  • Ben

I’m tired of seeing such glaring proof that car companies can design beautiful cars, yet they don’t put them on the road. Just build this! Figure out how to do it, without changes.
