McLaren 720S Runs Late 9’s With Huracan Performante Watching

As you well know, the McLaren 720S is the so-called King Slayer, if we were to use some GoT terminology, able to keep up with most hypercars, while destroying any and all supercar rivals.

So far, we’ve seen it knock the Tesla Model S P100D off its throne, out-run a Porsche 918 Spyder, and absolutely demolish a stock Lamborghini Huracan.

Yet, Lamborghini have an ace up their sleeve as well, with the Performante version of the Huracan putting down 640 PS and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque, with AWD.

This is also a car that went around the Nurburgring in just 6 minutes and 52 seconds, which made it 7 seconds faster than the Aventador SV, a truly tremendous achievement.

Now, thanks to Brooks from DragTimes, we have a pretty good idea of what a direct straight-line race would look like between the 720S and the Performante. Know that the former just ran a 1/4 mile in 9.98 seconds, so the Lambo definitely had its work cut out.

The 720 is like a Porsche TT….super fast but anemic and boring.
Listen to the Performante! Stunning. All day.

When a car is 1 second faster on the drag strip than another car, the difference between the two is usually night and day. I’ll take the McLaren, thanks.

    That Raccoon can run!

GobbleUp, I suppose you have driven them both? No, will I have and they are both fantastic. However, the 720S is so fast it takes your breath away, as do its breaks and handling. It is the car for me!
If you had driven them both then boring is definitely not the term you would use about either.

Performante arrived a week ago, had a 650 and 458 and Speciale and TT and driven 918 and 488….only witnessed the 720 at Goodwood earlier this year and not impressed with the sound (as other reviewers have noted). The Macs are indeed boring to me. Enjoy though!
