Nissan’s IMx Crossover Concept Is All-Electric And Fully-Autonomous

An all-electric and fully-autonomous crossover concept, dubbed the Nissan IMx, has just premiered at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Teased on numerous occasions in the past week, the IMx concept adopts the Japanese firm’s EV platform and therefore features a large cabin, low center of gravity and promises to provide “sharp handling.”

Power is provided by two electric motors, one driving the rear wheels and one powering the front. All up, they deliver 320 kW (429 hp) and 700 Nm of torque and receive juice from a high-capacity battery that provides a range of over 600 km (372 miles), significantly more than the new Nissan Leaf.

As mentioned, the concept features an updated version of Nissan ProPILOT which allows for fully-autonomous driving. When a human driver enables the system, the steering wheel is automatically stowed in the dashboard and the seats are reclined. As soon as ProPILOT is disabled, the steering wheel and seats return to their normal positions.

In designing the IMx, Nissan says it took inspiration from the Japanese concepts of ‘ma’, a sense of space and time, and ‘wa’, a term for harmony. As such, the crossover adopts a clean and sporty design with an expansive windscreen, glass roof and minimalist cabin.

There’s no word on whether we can expect to see the Nissan IMx reach the production line.

Is it conceptually fully autonomous or actually fully autonomous? I assume the former, which means nothing.
