If you had to pick one vehicle to be the emblem of America, what would it be? If you answered “the pickup truck,” you and Shell are on the same page.

The oil giant’s Rotella brand of truck engine lubricants is spearheading a campaign to have the pickup named the “Official Vehicle of the United States,” and it’s asking for your votes in an online petition.

“The campaign celebrates the achievements of hard-working Americans and highlights the pickup truck, which for almost a century, continues to support those who have given their blood, sweat, and tears to help build our country,” said Shell Rotella brand manager Megan Pino.

“The pickup truck exemplifies America’s resilience and the work it takes to continue to build our communities and support our farms, both which deserve to be recognized.”

Call it a grassroots campaign, or Big Oil lobbying the US government. Either way, the petition on WhiteHouse.gov needs 100,000 signatures within the next month to be considered by a panel of US government officials. At the time of writing, the campaign had reached just 302 digital signatures, and has until November 2 to reach its goal.
