Toyota-Based Ferrari 288 GTO Replica Can Be Yours For £29,950

At the heart of this Ferrari 288 GTO replica lies a 1993 Toyota MR2 with a 3.0-liter V6 engine, a far cry from the original’s 2.8-liter twin turbo V8.

On sale in the UK through eBay, this car features a full fiberglass body kit, fully refurbished 16″ alloys, new tires, a stainless steel quad exhaust system, original 288 GTO rear lights, front driving lights and fog lights.

Inside, you’ll find leather seats from an MX-5, giving it an 80’s look and feel according to the seller, a leather steering wheel, center tunnel handbrake conversion, and a custom dash with all heating and fan mechanisms converted to new switches and panels.

Even though it’s not hard to tell it apart from a real mid-80’s 288 GTO, the builder did a pretty solid job getting all the details right, especially when it comes to the exterior.

Coincidentally, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Ferrari replica built from a Toyota. We’re still trying to forget about this rather poor excuse for an F430, based on a Corolla.

    Nice effort, looks very convincing.

    • annon

I like the fact that there’s no “prancing horse” or any other Ferrari logo’s or badges on this replica & indeed, looks very convincing

  • Steve Cohn

Impressive, will fool a lot of people.
Where’s the Ferrari badges? Maybe it would instigate a lawsuit if he used them.

  • Craig

That’s VERY well done!! And makes me think… Ferrari should build something this small.

  • Christian Wimmer

Upon closer inspection the proportions are wrong, especially from the side. Not a bad effort, though.

It’s nice but I’d rather own the real thing despite being too poor to afford one. Besides, with the money they are asking for the replica I could probably get a bargain on a used car and still have money for upgrades.

  • Merc1

It’s fake junk so why would anyone want it?

    • Six_Tymes

because, there are many who build “fake junk”, but there are more that Like fake junk. Supply and Demand. take for example how many here alone think its “cool” or “not bad” or “very well done”. goes to show the size of the audience.

obviously your not one who likes “fake junk”, neither am i.

      • Merc1

I don’t get it, but you’re right. Same people who wear fake clothing and jewellery I guess.

  • Kagan

288 gto is probbably the nicest ferrari lookawise.

    • Bo Hanan

IT IS the pretty Ferrari ever.

  • cool

  • Alexandro Pietro

If the owner put the badges,FBI or Scotland Yard arrest him…

  • RDS Alphard

It’s actually very well done consider a lot of replica(s) are tacky looking.
However, if I want a MR-2, I’d get tuner-ish looks, not trying to be Ferrari.

  • Bash

    Excellent job!

    • Bo Hanan

I’d take one in a minute.

      • Bash

        Me too. its so convincing.

  • Jay

What if I want a Ferrari based Toyota?

  • TheHake

I think it looks pretty good! Points for effort!

  • Nick099

Best Ferrari replica I have seen in a long time.
