Walter Rohrl Still Has It At 70, Samples New Porsche 911 GT3

Former rally and racing legend Walter Rohrl knows a thing or two about pushing cars to their limits after nearly half a century of driving like he stole something.

The 70-year old German driver sat behind the wheel of the new Porsche 911 GT3 at a track in Andalusia, sharing his thoughts on one of Porsche’s latest road weapons.

Rohrl had previously sampled the new 911 GT2 RS this past summer, alongside former F1 driver Mark Webber. Both himself and Webber were stunned at the GT2 RS’ performance.

Compared to that, the GT3 is considerably less powerful with “just” 500 PS (493 HP) instead of the GT2 RS’ 700 PS (690 HP). Yet, it will still muscle its way to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.2 seconds and max out at 197 mph (317 km/h).

Rohrl acknowledged the fact that the GT3 feels extremely well balanced when pushed to its limits, with both understeer and oversteer being kept in check. The car features a tuned chassis with rear axle steering, a new rear wing and diffuser, plus a bunch of airflow optimizing mods for the exterior.

Another aspect of the GT3 he was particularly impressed with was the grip. Being able to put down all 500 of those horses at any moment’s notice is precisely what you want when trying to set fast lap times.

This man is a legend in my book. He could’ve easily chosen a PDK but decided to challenge himself on the track with a 6 MT. Two thumbs plus two big toes up!

    • Bo Hanan

Yeah, but at his age, in his position, and the many interviews he’s done- it’s unacceptable that he doesn’t speak english (a universal language). Sorry but true.

      • giancarlo always me

Why do you require that all the world speaks English?

      • giancarlo always me

Chinese is more spoken than English !!

The man’s job is to drive, not to speak a foreign language.

I’m sure he cares about what you think.

        • Bo Hanan

I could give a sh*t about what you think. But since you brought it up- he puts himself in front of a camera. He has done this all his career.
          Bitch you ain’t know me….

Whatever, bro. Have a nice day!

        • Dariush

When did italians get mad for people not speaking italian? sure most italian can’t speak english but they dont pretend others will speak their language either
