Buick LaCrosse Avenir Gets All Luxed-Up For Its LA Premiere

Buick offers the LaCrosse in four trim levels, but nine out of ten buyers go for one of the top two. The case for making an even more upscale version, then, must have practically made itself.

Enter the new LaCrosse Avenir. Like the Enclave Avenir sport-ute, the top-of-the-line version of Buick’s flagship sedan elevates it into more luxurious territory.

Set to debut at the LA Auto Show just a few weeks from now, the 2018 Buick LaCrosse Avenir is distinguished visually from the outside by 3D mesh grilles, chrome “wings,” polished 19- (or available 20-) inch wheels, and unique badging.

Inside is where it counts, though, where GM’s premium brand has given the LaCrosse Avenir chestnut-brown leather upholstery, Bose audio system, panoramic moonroof, and Avenir logos embroidered into the headrests and inscribed into the door sill plates.

Power comes from the LaCrosse’s otherwise optional 3.6-liter V6 engine, sending its 310 horsepower through a nine-speed automatic transmission to either the front wheels or all four. Buyers will also be able opt for the active suspension, black interior, and advanced safety systems when Buick’s latest Avenir model reaches dealers early in the new year.

    I’ve said it before. And I’ll say it again. ‘Avenir’? Seriously Buick? Why not ‘Electra’? At least it has some history. At least people will be able to PRONOUNCE it!

      Because it’s a Lacrosse, not an Electra. Avenir is a trim package. The name Electra is much more worthy as a separate model, not a trim package name.

    Avenir is not the name of the car, Avenir is a trimline just as GMC uses Denali to designate a high end trim level. This car is the Buick LaCrosse (Avenir trim line)!

        I agree on resurrecting the Electra name, but not for this application. The Electra moniker should be used by Buick vehicles that will be all electric/plug in …. IMO

    Unfortunately, just like the Enclave, they are not doing enough to distinguish the Avenir from the regular models. Denali is the luxury arm of essentially a work truck so you have more room to differentiate the models. Buick is/was supposed to be synonymous with attainable luxury anyway so you have to put more work in distinguishing the brand and its sub-brand.

    I feel sorry for Buick and Cadillac as GM has done an exceedingly piss-poor job with them. They are languishing and have lost their prominent heritage they had established decades ago when they mattered. But I digress as the facts are that GM was run into the ground by schmucks, like Lutz, who didn’t want to lose their lucrative pensions and, lied about a failed GM and got taxpayers to bail them (and secure their pensions). I have no doubt that Cadillac and Buick will be owned by the Chinese.

    So now there’s a “moar pretty” and a “less pretty” line of Buicks? Given the demand for Buicks among anyone under the age of 70 in the US, they should just offer the prettier one so that they can keep their marketing and production resources focused on the best possible car they can offer.
