Tesla Shocks Us With New 2020 Roadster, Does 0-60 In 1.9 Sec!

Tesla has used the unveiling of its long-awaited Semi to shock the world and unveil the second-generation Roadster, a car which will be the sportiest vehicle ever created by the electric automaker.

Elon Musk has been promising a new Roadster for a number of years and has just announced that it has arrived. Like the original, it is a sleek two-door but unlike its predecessor, is totally bespoke and adopts a seriously sexy design.

Incredibly, the base second-generation Tesla Roadster will reportedly reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 1.9 seconds and reach 100 mph (160 km/h) in a mere 4.2 seconds. What’s more, it will run down the quarter mile in 8.9 seconds thanks to a 200-kWh battery pack and apparently hit over 250 mph.

According to Musk, the new Tesla Roadster has a 620-mile range and despite what the images may suggest, it does have four seats, however, the rear seats are exceptionally small.

From a design standpoint, the new Roadster is a dramatic departure from any other Tesla before it. The front end is characterized by a pair of slim LED headlights and typical Tesla curved body panels, while the rear looks more like a radical concept car than anything remotely close to a production model. Among the most intriguing design elements are wafer-thin taillights and an aggressive diffuser.

During his speech announcing the second-generation Tesla Roadster, Musk said he wants it to serve as the final nail in the coffin for ICE vehicles, hence why such lofty performance targets have been set. If they’re all achieved, it could very well represent the future of performance cars.

Unsurprisingly, the second-gen Tesla Roadster will be more expensive than its predecessor. In fact, the base price will start at $200,000 with a $50,000 reservation required. For true die-hard Tesla enthusiasts, a Roadster Founders Series will be available, starting at $250,000.

            LOL,you’re full of crap.The Roadster front end doesn’t look like the RX8 at all and then there’s the fact that Franz Von Houlzhausen began working for Mazda in 2005.The RX8 was released in 2003.Then there’s the facelifted RX8 that was done while he was Design Director at Mazda,but it doesn’t look any different than the OG RX8

            Regardless of whether Franz worked on it or not, I too saw the RX8 resemblance before even scrolling down to the comments. It’s pretty easy to see the similarities with the sharp wheel arch contours, hood line placement and angles, the headlamp rounded outer curves and pointing towards the center. It’s naturally different but there are definitely shared elements, if that’s something you can comprehend.

Fact is Tesla is not delivering on the model 3 and is having serious issues across the line. They need to fix that before they move on.

        Sorry, I forgot to put sarcasm-tags onto my first comment. In my very personal opinion this Tesla is the first one which qualifies being designed (at least on the outside). Up to now (all imho) Teslas were highly generic, especially interiorwise. I’m glad that they are about to change that.

    • Agreed. Honestly, it’s what this and the semi feel like – literal cash grabs. No way will we see this Roadster in at least the next 5 years. I’m all for it, but this will require Tesla to compentently build the Model 3 as well as another factory and dealership network to cope with these two. These reservations come in at a time when Tesla needs the extra money for it’s robotic production increase also. Sounds too suspicious for this to be a legitimate motive.

    Impressive. I’m really not a Tesla enthusiast, but this Roadster is very sexy. Performance-wise it seems remarkable (hopefully not as flawed as its predecessor), but the price tag… eh. I’m not sure this thing will be able to compete with Ferraris and McLarens. Performance is there, but Tesla doesn’t really have pedigree and know-how in sports cars. A slower, less-performing $100k car would have made more sense, as an alternative to the 911. High-performance versions could have come later, a $200k price will put off a lot of people.

    Very nice and congratulations. But I think that in 2021 Tesla will finally have competition. Porsche Mission E would probably be in the same price range, Mercedes could also follow. But nevertheless, the goal of “nail in the coffin” for ICE vehicles would probably be achieved (some time 10 years later).

    So, Veyron Super Sport has top speed around 265 mph and 1500Nm and set of tires for 42k$ (around). These special tires are making it possible to drive with top speed for 15 minutes, then it’s pretty dangerous becasue they wear out . Tesla Roadster gonna have 250 mph and 10000Nm. With such numbers it’s obvious that it’s gonna need better tires than ususal. So with 250k$ price it’s gonna be pretty expensive to buy a set of better tires for that Tesla. It’s not that bad with veyron when new car cost around 3000000$.

      by using the manner they advertise their torque number, the Veryon Super Sport does 17,362.8 nm ! (1500nm x 3:18 1st gear ratio x 4.62 final drive). tells you something about how blatantly twisted the whole tesla marketing is.

    The design looks good but there so many other cars I’d rather have in this price range. It may be faster than all the cars I’m thinking of but speed wouldn’t be a top priority considering all cars in that bracket are ridiculously fast. Most of other cars in this category have something the Tesla doesn’t; unique sounding engines and prestige. I do wish Tesla luck.
