This Is How Fast The New Tesla Roadster Really Is

It’s one thing to read about a new car’s specs, and a completely different story to experience it firsthand.

However, in the case of the all-new Tesla Roadster, most of us won’t get near it until early next decade, so the only way to check it out right now is by watching these short video posted online.

One of the clips bears Electrek’s name, and it shows Tesla Motors’ sportiest vehicle ever doing a couple of short accelerations, shot via a 360-degree camera, so that you can adjust the angle.

To those that missed our initial coverage of the second generation Tesla Roadster, we will remind you that it packs a 200kWh battery pack. Zero to 60mph (96km/h) takes just 1.9sec, or approximately half a second faster than a Bugatti Chiron, and its digital speedometer will show 100mph (160km/h) after 4.2sec.

Moreover, the initial numbers also reveal that it can run down the quarter mile in 8.9sec, before topping out at over 250mph (402km/h).

This impressive performance comes at a steep price, as the new Tesla Roadster is said to start at $200,000.

    TESLA FANBOY ALARM!

    • brn

Fanboy of accusing people of being fanboys alarm!

      • Moveon Libtards

Not fanboys, more like CULT MEMBERS. Same psychological classification.

      • Christian

That makes no sense. Fanboys are corporate dickriders and if it makes you butthurt that a topic might attract those people. That’s your problem. 🙂

    • mas921

      *worshippers lol

  • pureworx

the flashing lights etc make it appear faster and more violent than it really is.

    • brn

The video and effects are a joke. The ~9 second quarter mile is crazy.

      • Moveon Libtards

Tesla is a joke. A bunch of empty promises, $16 million dollars a day in losses, and they cant even make a regular electric car when old school GM has already done it.

    • Tenzin Pelha

You’re telling me 0-60 in 1.9 sec isn’t fast? tell me what production car has ever achieved that?

      • mas921

lets see it in production first lol

        • Axiom Ethos

They’ll get there by 2020, once they’ve worked out the kinks. Faster production models will probably be 1.5s, approaching the acceleration of the AMZ Grimsel Electric race car.

      • pureworx

im saying raving about 0-60 is pointless.. unless manufacturers are racing towards who can give the best whiplash.. and to bang on about it for an electric car that costs so much.. more pointless number spouting.. keep launching like that and there is no way your battery will last.

  • ErnieB

So will this have a Hellish mode? Or heavenly.. depending on where you’d like to end up after you wrap yourself around a tree?

    • joey

Maybe Mental mode, that’s more like what they’re known to go with; and you could end up with more than a concussion with that kind of acceleration.

      • KareKakk

        How about “Disturbed mode”?

        • joey

A little too negative for marketing

  • Bash

    Meh.

  • dumblikeyou2

Was the “journalist” allowed to film this or was it the velocity of the car that made the camera get wonky after he stepped out into the crowd?

  • Moveon Libtards

Tesla fanboy alert! This site’s writers/ Tesla cult members are going bananas…Tesls is puuuuurrrrrrrfect. Cant do no harm. Just ignore that thingy about Tesla never making money in its 13-year history and cant even produce a simple car like the Model 3. Dont worry though, this super duper roadster will be out in 1 year…2 years…uhh, maybe 5…most likely 7….could be 9 with all the “production hell they are going through…

  • Moveon Libtards

Video = trying too hard = desperate.

  • Honda NSX-R

    Can’t believe it’s 2017…

    Saving NOW!!!

  • Seb Jones

And now the dodge demon is outdated….that was fast

    • brn

I wonder if the Tesla will also be banned.

  • TheBelltower

When an AWD car chirps its wheels, you know that this kind of speed is bonkers. What’s up with the camera?

    • Eagle By Singer

      It’s “360” which isn’t exactly working

  • marcin
  • R55

That video reminds me of Rita Queen of Speed @ Alton Towers. Accelerates to 62.1 mph in 2.5 seconds.

This thing, not on rails, that you have to control is quicker… unreal.

  • TheBelltower

Now let’s see Clarkson whip this roadster around the track! No doubt it’ll be a different result this time.

I have to wonder what the speed would be if they went with the current 100kw battery pack. An extra 1200lbs of weight of the 200kw battery pack may have been necessary simply to keep the car controllable.

  • Wayne Alan Carr Heyes

HOW RIDICULOUS AND DANGEROUS TO HAVE A CAR THAT QUICK!!!!

  • I HOPE THEY DON’T SCREW UP THE INTERIOR.

  • Some ol’ bloke

The Semi -truck comes out. The crowd goes wild. The roadster comes out and every other vehicle on wheels is forgotten.

    • Christian

Not for people with a brain who aren’t corporate whores. 🙂

  • annon

guess Rimacs’ up for a challenge?

  • nice video by tesla ,but too long to see the car on the streets …

  • World’s fastest accelerating car with higher range than any hyper car for $250k and people still complain.

    • Christian

It is not the worlds fast accelerating car, just the quickest production car. The price is too cheap to make any commercial sense, especially for a limited run like this.

  • LeStori

Presumably the mode that gets you to 60mph in 1.9 seconds is called “loose your License” mode… or maybe “death mode!”.

  • TeamNY

If they ever manage to produce it…
