2017 Nurburgring Crash Compilation Shows How Dangerous The Circuit Is

Many people wrongly believe that they’re good drivers but when things start to go wrong, discover that they don’t have the skills to correct an out-of-control car.

On public roads, this overconfidence can be extremely dangerous, especially to drivers around you. For the most part, it’s safer to learn about these shortcomings in driving skill at a racetrack. Unless that racetrack is the Nurburgring, of course.

Arguably the most famous circuit of them all, the ‘Ring was famously dubbed ‘Green Hell’ by Sir Jackie Stewart and after watching the video below, you’ll begin to understand why.

Unlike most racetracks around the world, the Nurburgring is open to the public and as long as you have a valid driver’s license, you can explore the limits of a car without a care in the world. Sadly, things don’t always go smoothly.

This 10-minute video has gathered together some of the most horrifying crashes to have occurred at the circuit when it’s been open to the public. Many of the accidents are quite minor but there are a few serious crashes, and rollovers, exemplifying just how treacherous the ‘Ring can be when someone’s ambition outweighs their talent.

Too many cars, not enough experienced drivers. I’m not surprised.

What do you know about it? Consider yourself a driving god do you? Probably never driven a real car in your life

“What do you know about it? Consider yourself a driving god do you? Probably never driven a real car in your life”

Well I do know that these people crashed for a variety of reasons. And I do know that people will react to situations in various ways. Sometimes it will exacerbate a problem and make it worse. And no, I don’t consider myself a driving god for that matter. The point is not everyone knows the track and that does play a role here.

Why blur all the license plates? People drive around displaying their license plates to every one, every day.

Because your country is not the only one and we have different laws here in germany….

The second part of your comment was helpful.

It is so paramount people know the track before driving at anything over 6-7/10ths in it. It has some very tricky places which can easily catch you out. Then of course there are idiots like that TT and Golf R drivers which you can do nothing about.

  • daftboy11

I don’t think that the track is the problem.

lol Top Gear fans pretending to be Ayrton Senna.
Need to take pro driving school instead of watching The Grand Tour all day long and go to the ring.
Thank God insurance wouldn’t save them.

    • 2sfhim

Lol you’re wrong since these crashes are quite often covered by the standard insurance. Most have policies which do not exclude the Nordschleife.

  • OdysseyTag

Would have liked to have seen what lead to the pile-up where they ended up using the jaws-of-life – seemed hectic.

Kudos to grounds crew for repeatedly repairing the rails, sweeping the road, and raking the gravel after these mishaps.
