Porsche Cayenne And Macan Coupe Decision Coming Next Year

BMW helped to kick off the crossover coupe craze when it introduced the X6 and Mercedes followed suit with the GLC and GLE Coupes.

Porsche is considering jumping on the crossover coupe bandwagon and CEO Oliver Blume recently confirmed a decision will be made sometime next year. Blume declined to say which way the company is leaning but he told Automotive News, “There might be opportunities for the future but it always depends on the volume behind it.” He went on to say the company analyzes each segment it wants to enter and seizes opportunities when they exist.

If the company signs off on the plan, we can expect to see coupe versions of the Cayenne and Macan. The publication is reporting a Macan Coupe could be introduced as early as 2021 with an electric powertrain. It would soon be followed by a redesigned version of the regular model.

Speaking of electric vehicles, Blume confirmed Porsche will announce its next eco-friendly vehicle in the first half of 2018. It is widely expected to be a Macan EV but Blume would only say “We have to check if it makes sense for Porsche to come with an [electric] SUV.”

  • I simply wouldn’t get the appeal of large SUV coupe.

i dont get the appeal of SUV/crossover coupes in general – large or small. lol

      • You will get it when you have children lol

        • no25

no. I know several people with children that dont want that. I rather have a regular crossover.

          • Well this is true story. You go to L.A and you see all kind of wealthy people that want to get 911 and ended up with high performance luxo barge SUV. And yet they still want a coupe for that…

And then folks like us maybe need decades to afford that. Meanwhile this people are begging for it. So go figure….

Mate, I understand your position on it in regards for children. I’m single at the moment but got my performance SUV coupe because I wanted a a sporty performance coupe and something large enough to haul me, my mates and our stuff/gear whenever/wherever we had an activity or outing to go to. The car is best of both worlds and the performance is sports car fast, if not even faster, and more powerful. The coupe-look makes it more youthful and stylish to enjoy especially for some of my younger mates. It would have been really selfish to just go buy a 911 or Panamera or AMG GT or M4, Audi R8, etc. Those wouldn’t be practical or comfy or roomy enough for everyone. Its so much more fun when you have something and can share experiences happily with others. So trust me, the appeal of performance SUV coupes makes sense to a lot of people for different reasons. I have no regrets at all.

          • Yeah I mean for 4 door performance SUV I can tolerate it. But me and @no25 are annoyed with 2 door SUV. It kinda defeat the purpose of being practical.

    “Coupe” means nothing anymore.

  • no25

CROSSOVERS CAN NOT BE COUPES. Like who sat there and cut off a chunk of the roof from a crossover and said “wow, that’s a coupe!”?

  • Honda NSX-R

I know this probably won’t happen but I would love to see a smaller version of the Panamera, but I guess that’s what the Mission E will be.

    • Auf Wiedersehen

A coupe version has been rumored for years as the 928 successor. Renderings looked very nice!

      • Honda NSX-R

A new 928 would be awesome too

Just what the world needs, SUV “coupes”.

  • SteersUright

Dont do it!! SUV “coupes” always look so dumb and I can’t recall any recent model that sold well.
