Watch Richard Hammond Smoke Aventador And NSX With The Rimac

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the first episode of The Grand Tour’s second season, stop what you’re doing and check it out immediately.

If you have seen it, the video below showcases one of the most memorable segments from the trio’s Swiss road trip in the Rimac Concept_One, Lamborghini Aventador S, and Honda NSX, showing just how quick the Croatian electric hypercar is.

Filmed before Richard Hammond’s unfortunate crash onboard the Rimac, the drag race took place at an airfield in Switzerland and marks a return to form for the three ex-Top Gear hosts.

To be fair to the Aventador and NSX, the Rimac is in a totally-different performance class, so it’s no surprise that it wiped the floor with the two supercars. In fact, the Concept_One used in the film delivers 1,224 hp thanks to four electric motors and a 90 kWh battery pack. This allows it to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 220 mph (354 km/h).

Then Hamster rolled it on the twisty hillclimb because it’s so heavy. The future still needs work.

Rimac 1850kg, Aventador 1731kg (with fluids in Euro spec., heavier than the Rimac in US spec,), Honda 1725kg. Not so much difference.

      • Bugatti Chiron 1,996 kg. I don’t see anyone complain driving the Chrion…

    • fabri99

Or because he wasn’t careful enough. People still need work too.

      • Six Thousand Times

Valid but the RIMAC, like all electrics, is a heavy car.

        • fabri99

Not so much really. I mean, yes it is heavy, but not too much compared with its contenders. Still, Hammond’s crash isn’t Rimac’s fault.

            I guess I’m team Clarkson.

The fawning over EV’s by some here is just delusional.
The episode also shows Hammond having to trailer this car to get to a hill climb.
It shows Hammond choosing sites to visit in Switzerland that have charging stations…and they are few.
Finally you see the crash. Hammond passes the finish line, there is an expression on his face that something was not working…maybe the brakes or the accelerator. Then pans out to show him way up the finish line at speed runs right into the wall on a turn.

No mention of why. No mention of the range of this EV.
One mention that the car…which caught fire…burned for 5 days.

Nice looking car…not ready for prime time.

There are MANY charging stations in Switzerland I was there over the summer. And I have news for you, all three of those cars were trailered to the hill climb.

    • All things which will be resolved with time. You don’t build advanced high performance technology in an instant. This is why people like you are ridiculed and called idiots. Because you are. Why is it that your brain is incapable of figuring out that it takes time to build a global EV infrastructure? Think a little. It’s only been a few years since high performance EVs have hit the road. They are still in BETA testing. It’s going to take a couple of decades at least to work it all out, and longer if people like you and Trump “cockblock” the R-and-D for further development. You can drive yourself into your grave in your ICE car. Now, get out of our way, dinosaur.

The sheer performance that electric vehicles can deliver is truly remarkable, though I’m actually quite surprised by the NSX capabilities. Not that you should expect anything different, yet I really never realised it was Aventador-fast.

    • john1168

Obviously I was blown away by the Rimac but how the NSX hung with the Aventador was the big surprise for me.

      • Moveon Libtards

        Still lost.

    • Zed68

Yep! I was just like “heeeeeeey look at that little honda not wanting to let the Lambo go!!”

  • john1168

    That Rimac is insane!

  • Moveon Libtards

Tesla looks even more of a dated toy car after seeing this.

  • eye.surgeon

The age of the internal combustion engine supercar is over. Every new generation of supercar will have electric motors in some capacity.

  • Six_Tymes

would have been nice to see a Tesla 100D tossed in that race for good measure.

  • Lyonel Baratheon

    Rimac Forever!

  • Bo Hanan

“One of these cars is not like the others- one of these cars is a plane.”
P.S. the NSX kept up with the Aventador… dafuq?
