Alfa Romeo Giulia And Stelvio Recalled Over Contaminated Brake Fluid

When you drive any new vehicle, you count on the brakes to be working properly at all times. But this is not the case with certain Alfa Romeos, as the company has just issued a recall concerning this issue.

The Italian automaker reports that it filled the braking systems on a few hundred new Giulias and Stelvios with contaminated brake fluid, which could damage the brakes and keep them from performing as they should.

The problem appears to be limited to 2018 models manufactured between the 14th and 23rd of November, 2017, of which only 307 examples are estimated to be in the United States, though it’s possible that there are more in other countries around the world.

Those sedans and crossovers will need to be brought in to their local dealers to have the braking systems inspected and, where necessary, replaced entirely. The process is set to kick off on February 8, so drivers of the affected vehicles had better test their brakes to make sure they’re working in the meantime or refrain from using them altogether.

It would appear so. Last week I went to visit my old office. A colleague there bought a Giulia and when I asked him about it the first thing he told me was that ti had spent more time in the shop than in his hands. The check engine light came on and after taking it to the dealership 3 times they kept it for 2 weeks… The light is now off but they didn’t know what had brought it on to begin with. So, yeah… It seems quality hasn’t improved a lot…

There are car recall lists available on the internet. There were 10 separate recalls between Dec 10 and Dec 20 2017, four were from the Hyundai Kia group, two from Ford, one was from FCA, one from VAG, one from Mitsubishi and the last one from Mazda.

In the 10 days prior to this, there were 7 recalls, two from Mercedes-Benz, two from Ford, two from BMW and one from FCA.

Why didn’t we get to read more about those here?

    • europeon

Because some people have an agenda against FCA.

  • europeon

    Most likely a supplier error.
When I got my 159, it came from the factory with the wrong type of power steering fluid, which damaged the pump. There was a recall for that and everything was fine after.

So what you are saying is, don’t use the brakes? Alright. People are pretty creative I’m sure they’ll find a way of making this interesting. 🙂
