BMW 8-Series Looks Ready For Its Debut Later This Year

We’ve seen countless spy photos of the BMW 8-Series over the past few months and now we’re getting an undisguised look at the upcoming coupe.

Previewed by the 8-Series concept, the production model has a tamer appearance but remains pretty faithful to the original as it features slender headlights and a large grille with chrome trim. The car also has a more conventional front bumper and redesigned mirrors with integrated turn signals.

The sporty styling continues out back as the 8-Series has a ventilated rear fascia and a dual exhaust system. We can also see slim taillights and dark cladding on the lower bumper.

The pictures are pretty blurry but this particular model appears to be wearing 850i badging. If the 750i is any indication, it could mean the coupe is powered by a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that produces 445 hp (331 kW) and 479 lb-ft (648 Nm) of torque.

The BMW 8-Series Coupe will go into production later this year and it will be joined by a convertible variant. M8 versions are also in the works and BMW M boss Frank van Meel has suggested they could be more powerful than the M5 which develops 600 hp (447 kW) and 553 lb-ft (748 Nm) of torque.

Thanks to JT for the tip!

anyone noticed the NEW MINI 4dr SALOON behind ?!!!!

    • Six Thousand Times

      Good catch.

    • Fabián Montiel

And the one next to the mini looks like the new 1 Series

    • Good eye they actually make the saloons.

    • LWOAP

Two new cars revealed for the price of one.

    • Knotmyrealname

Are you talking about the black car above the guy’s elbow? Isn’t that a hatch that’s open? Are you thinking it’s a boot/hatch Octavia-style?

    • Bash

      Very good catch!

    • Tumbi Mtika

      Good eye.

    • Yilmaz Yasar

İts not Mini saloon/sedan.its 5 door mini hatchback look carefully baggage door

  • Nordschleife

Pleasantly surprised as I thought it would look a little more duller but I can’t wait until the final reveal so I can see it as a whole.

  • Carmelo Van Cabboi

Im in love with the concept but this is too ugly for me. The rear end is bleeah

    • Yeah the rear end is dividing. I think I need to look the car at full reveal.

      • Nordschleife

I personally feel it’s those horizontal reflectors that bother me the most but I agree upon complete reveal I may change my mind.

    • Dredd2

front isnt that bad, but that rear yeah….worst than ever., i guess the gc version will be the good.

    • Jay

im somewhat with you but current BMWs can look great or bland based on color. White is dull as hell. Put this in their oranges, reds, blues, greens then we shall see. Also BMW has started forcing people to buy M-Perfomance add ons to make their cars looks better, where it was just 1 step in M Sport for years before last gen.. so guarantee those added parts will resolve what you see. They have figured out how to nickel and dime true visual enthusiasts. The average business guy who buys it wont care or notice.

  • O123

Meh, there was nothing that wasn’t production ready on the concept. The headlights are huge now.

Look how well lexus did the LC

    • enthusia

my thoughts exactly. everything about the concept (save for the front facia) looks like it could have been a production road car by aston martin. especially considering how this is going to cost as much as an aston, there really is no excuse.

    • no25

Exactly. The LC is almost EXACTLY like the concept, and the 8 series concept was pretty production ready. i’m surprised they didnt do better, but it looks decent.

  • Mr_Fanta_Pants

  • Frank Yoster

    Looks half baked.

    • Six Thousand Times

      Yeah but you’re an idiot.

      • Frank Yoster

Ookk? Ur the dumbass.. So why dont u call everyone here an idiot cause the majority think its ugly..foh u bitch ass kid

        • Six Thousand Times

No, I call you an idiot because you can neither read nor write. I mean, just look at what you’ve written there. How do you even function in the world? You can’t want to go through life like that, can you? Run back to your English teacher, tell her you need help.

          • Frank Yoster

Wow so u start #$%t over my spelling grammar.? Wow dude i pity ur wife if u ever get or have one…seriously dude u need help.

          • Six Thousand Times

Great, I’ll let her know. She does put up with a lot. But you can’t feel good being stupid, right? And I’m not the first one to say something am I? This is not the right millennium to be a moron; the jobs just won’t be there. I mean, one of those Honda robots or you? You have to go with the robot.

            +1 for the Chef gif

          • Dredd2

kid, congrat. ure a true cancer of the life.

          • Six Thousand Times

Well, I’m flattered you called me a kid… And it appears English isn’t your primary language. Yoster can’t use the same excuse.

          • Dredd2

kid, uve too much time for bitching on irrelevant things.

          • Six Thousand Times

Language isn’t irrelevant. If you want to help, go in with Yoster on some tutoring, little man.

  • Bo Hanan

I knew they’d screw it up. The rear end looks odd and the nose isn’t protruding like the concept. Why present a concept car that will be so far removed from the production model?
    BMW mucks it up again.

  • PK

ok. the looks are promising. now if the interior would have that wow factor it’ll be a winner in my book!

    • getoffme

Lol, don’t be surprised if the interior looks like a BMW………

      • PK

that’s what i’m hoping for not to happen. bmw has a history of interiors of being outdated whenever they introduce to a new model.

  • Alter Ego

That’s… really boring compared to the concept… And that concept was so damn good. It wasn’t even super crazy. Aside from the taillights that concept could’ve come right out of the factory. Oh well..

    • Bo Hanan

  • Six Thousand Times

Wow! Much closer to the concept than the prototype led me to believe. I’m really into this. Paint one purple for me, BMW Dubai!

  • thunder bolt

The 4 headlights design just doesn’t work anymore. BMW should be done with this design already.

    • Elpatore

IKR?? they look warped, as if they were stretched by accident.

    • Nordschleife

Unfortunately when you tout that as a traditional staple you are pretty much tied to it. It and the hoftmister kink.

  • enthusia

yikes! they really dropped the ball on this one. the rear looks like a camaro, and the whole car in general does not look like a car worth $100k+. such a shame, i was really looking forward to this.

    • B.Stokes

Ha! Camaro for sure. It’s terrible.

  • S3XY

BMW’s do not look good anymore. Very funky, strange and weird looking design language now. M3 GTR looks better than this

  • It’s really good design, but I wonder if 8 Series can keep up with Conti and SL.

Meh. I’m just waiting for the M8.

    • Eythan Aldrich

      no pun intended

  • KareKakk

And bimmer’boys complained about the designs from Chris Bangle back in the day…

  • ErnieB

I will hold judgement until it gets released.. but to me it just doesn’t look like the beautiful “production” looking concept..

  • Wandering_Spirit

BMWs are getting uglier and uglier. Recently i passed by a showroom and got sad.

  • Leconte Dave

    They had one job…

  • Honda NSX-R

From what I’m seeing…I’m not really feeling it. Perhaps it’ll look better in person.

  • Tinky-Winky

So much of the concept. And the taillights almost look like they’re straight from KIA Optima.

  • An Existing Person

I’ll reserve full judgment until the car is actually revealed, but this is looking rather disappointing compared to the beautiful concept.

  • B.Stokes

I wish they had some balls like they did with the i8 and just leave the concept design alone.

  • rodriguez256

The lower rear fascia reminds me of the lower front fascia of the 2018 Mustang.

    • lagunas3ca

Agreed. Just like the Charger SRT’s rear, too.

  • Shobin Drogan

Dear bmw your grills are too big. Pls stop making it larger with each generation, thank you.

    • LWOAP

    • Belthronding Tinuviel

it is no more bmw grill, it seems grill has a bmw.
so you better talk to grill.

  • Ruel Lewis

Didn’t like the concept, don’t like this.

  • GobbleUp

    Looks absolutely terrible.

    What a mistake. Again.

  • Knotmyrealname

Interested to know what that black line or gap is that is just forward of the rear decklid edge. It’s not the decklid itself, as that goes down to the bumper, and it’s not a stuck on spoiler, nor is it the front edge of the decklid, so what is it?

    • lagunas3ca

      Retractable active spoiler?

      • Knotmyrealname

        Could be I guess?

  • getoffme

    Swing and a miss.

  • Gowtham Oleti

Looks better than an Aston Martin DB11.

    • Elpatore

  • Honda NSX-R
    • PK

umm somewhat buying it…. i gotta see it in person before i judge it.

    • no25

ew why does it look like a Nissan’s interior? chrome, black plastic, and air vent shapes look so Nissan.

    • Knotmyrealname

Yeah, doesn’t look BMW, more Lexus or Nissan.

      • Honda NSX-R

I don’t see how it looks like a Lexus inside, but I do see some Nissan similarities with that black plastic, but the gauge cluster and main screen do look pretty cool.

        • Knotmyrealname

BMWs of late tended to be more horizontal in theme; this looks old school.

  • KidRed

WTF is that rear valance doing? Please, BMW, don’t turn into a Lexus/Nissan and copy Japanese design trends and go all manga with odd angles for no reason with your design language. Argh.

  • Faisal Alk
    • no25

why are you posting this? this is the Z4 concept. not related to the 8 series at all.

    • no25

lol why because both cars are white? not similar at all.

  • 🤭

Wonder if anyone gets fired over these photos

  • Enter Ranting

And the big “grilles” in the rear bumper are for what? Airing out the luggage? Can at least one car company knock it off with the gimmicky boy racer styling?

  • fgclolz

Pics look terribly distorted. I’ll reserve judgement until the actual reveal.

  • lagunas3ca

Wait a minute, Frank, what do you mean the M8 versions in the works “could be” more powerful than the M5? Are you fucking kidding me?
