Kia isn’t the only automaker bringing a 4D experience to the North American International Auto Show as Chevrolet has unveiled a new virtual reality display which gives attendees a behind-the-scenes look at how the company tests its vehicles.
Dubbed the Chevrolet Virtual Dynamics Lab, the experience puts users in the front passenger seat of various vehicles while they are being tested on different surfaces including gravel roads and a rock climbing course. The virtual reality headsets provide users with a 360-degree view of their surroundings and the experience apparently features the Equinox and Colorado ZR2.
Speaking of testing, Chevrolet says the 2019 Silverado will be subjected to at least seven million miles (11.2 million km) of testing and validation before the company ever delivers the first truck. Chevrolet also noted they have test chambers which are capable of simulating extreme environments including temperatures from -40° to 130° Fahrenheit as well as wind speeds ranging from 0 to 100 mph (0-161 km/h).
According to GM North America president Alan Batey, “Chevrolet is committed to delivering high-quality, durable vehicles able to withstand some of the harshest weather conditions and most unique driving situations people encounter today.” He went to say this will be shown to visitors by immersing them in their “rigorous testing processes” so they “better understand the capability built into our lineup of vehicles.”
