The DS lineup is about to grow as spy photographers have snapped the all-new DS3 Crossback undergoing testing in Sweden.

Set to battle the Audi Q2 and MINI Countryman, the DS3 Crossback is expected to be a five-door hatchback with crossover-inspired styling. The prototype is heavily camouflaged but the photos suggest the model will have a large grille and slender headlights. Additional styling details are hard to make out but the car has a short hood, a relatively flat roof, and a tailgate-mounted rear spoiler.

The DS3 Crossback will be based on the new CMP platform which has been designed for small vehicles. It is slated to underpin an assortment of different models including the next-generation Peugeot 208.

The decision to base the vehicle on the CMP platform will also pave the way for an electric variant which uses the e-CMP architecture. The eco-friendly model will use a small electric motor that produces 113 hp (84 kW). Power will be provided by a 50 kWh battery which should enable the electric DS3 Crossback to travel up to 450 km (279 miles) on a single charge.
