Here’s A Good Guess At What The New VW Jetta GLI Will Look Like

Volkswagen took the wraps off the all-new Jetta in Detroit this week. And that’s all well and fine, but what enthusiasts want to know is what the performance variant will look like. And this is probably pretty close.

Rendered by X-Tomi is what’s billed as a Jetta GTI, but as VW enthusiasts know, those aren’t the letters that the hot version of the Jetta wears. GLI are.

Regardless of what it’s called, this speculative rendering adopts new wheels, bumpers, black roof, red-trimmed honeycomb grille, and other hot-Veedub fixins.

It looks pretty convincing to our eyes, but we’ll have to wait to see what Volkswagen comes up with for the actual Jetta GLI… and more to the point, of what sort of performance it will be capable.

The outgoing model, for what it’s worth, packs a 2.0-liter turbo four good for 210 horsepower and nearly as many pound-feet of torque, but sadly did away with the manual for its final year on the market.

Looks good enough for what it is. But VW sure isn’t giving buyers anything more than they think they have to.

LOL! Well said. Somebody in Marketing said: “just change the bumpers on the current model and get the dam thing out there.”

Looks awful. So we’re bound to get it.

They’ll need to ditch the torsion beam for anyone to take them seriously.

Most MQB-based cars get a multilink rear axle if the engine has more than 150bhp. I’d imagine they’ll take a similar tack with the Jetta in the US – basic models like the S and SE will get a torsion beam, but the higher end SEL and GLI will probably get multilink.

The GLI, like the Gti, drops the torsion beam for multilink in the rear I thought?

There needs to be a Jetta R already! The GLI is so weak sauce, I drove it and it pales in sporty feel in comparison even to a Civic Si or Elantra Sport and is far, far below the driving experience offered by its own platform-mate, the Gti. It drives just like the base car with slightly more power, thats all. In other words, it still so loose with a vague shifter, weak brakes, roly-poly through all the curves, no limited slip, etc. It should be a proper, affordable, sport sedan and also offer a hardcore R version as well.

The new Civic in my opinion brings a great looking design, with a good performance and technology.

    Hell no

Hope the GLi has real exhaust outlets. The fake outlets on base models looks silly!

This jetta will be a bigger flop than the civic of a generation ago. packaging is the worst i’ve seen in a long time, interior is a good 2 inches higher than the golf and that ramped up line continues to a terrible for visibility back window. What the heck happened??? over designed, poorly executed, NA VW crap
