Move Over, Porsche Macan; The Alfa Stelvio QV Wants The Sportiest SUV Crown

It’s no secret that Alfa Romeo is marketing the new Stelvio Quadrifoglio as the sportiest model in the premium compact SUV segment.

Powered by the same powertrain with the Giulia Quadrifoglio, the range-topping Stelvio has to prove that it’s not just another really fast SUV, but also one that offers real fun behind the wheel.

Straight-line performance is great, thanks to the 505hp of the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6, with 0-60mph coming in an impressive 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 177mph (285km/h).

The chassis also features the same torque-vectoring rear differential used in the Giulia, while the adaptive dampers offer the necessary handling and ride an SUV with such high aspirations must have.

Autocar reviews the new Stelvio Quadrifoglio on a twisty mountain pass in the UAE and deliver their verdict in the following video.

  • JR Glide

Alfa Romeo = Unreliable Italian Junk.

    • Dennis James

…that just spanks all the current competition and makes them rethink their sports saloons and SUVs as well as their price-performance ratios.

As for “reliable”…your Toyota dealership can’t wait to sell you a Camry. In the mean time, other people want to have fun in life, so that’s what these Alfas are for.

      • ace_9

So that’s why there are Alfa Romeos everywhere nowadays. Because they spank all the competition. 😀

    • Rick Astley

FCA = Unreliable Italian Junk, Germany’s Big Three = Unreliable Turkish Junk, Jaguar/LR = Unreliable Indian Junk, Volvo = Unreliable Chinese Junk etc, etc
      Stereotypes we all know.

      • Belthronding Tinuviel

German big 3= unreliable turkish junk?
İ did not get your point actually

        • Necmy

too many turkish workers outhere. (i dont agree with him anyway)

        • Rick Astley

          Just some stereotypes.

    • LWOAP

Shouldn’t you be saying VW = Dirty Fraud?

    • alexxx

      JR Glide=unreliable human …. 😂😂😂😂😂

      • botornot387

no hes actually pretty reliable. He has to comment blank= unreliable blank on every post. its almost a given.

    • Matteo Ruggeri

      Just envy.

    • Alex Rossi

      Your song is boring

    • Michelin

Unreliable is people who speak without know. Like you!!!!

  • Raul V

I thought that crown was already taken by the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk!

    I’ll take it.

  • Bo Hanan

Think in terms of if you were allowed to buy 1 car and it would be your daily driver.
I doubt this would be on anyone’s list.

  • Carmelo Van Cabboi

I take the Stelvio! What a beauty and very driveful

    • Michelin

      100% agree!!! Very good car.

  • Ermal Morina

The engine is really good, but I wouldn’t take this.Car looks bad imo,and I think that the design of the Guila doesn’t work on the Stelvio. It’d take the Porche,or maybe the GLC63S,which personally I think has the chance to be the sportiest of the bunch…

    • Belthronding Tinuviel

      Completely agreed.
İ want each and every alfa to be successful and enjoyable but giulia face does not seem like a looker to me on stelvio, especially front end could be better.
Plus my sister has a glc and it is looking really cool.

      • Michelin

Personal taste, I Think exactly the opposite ! Glc and Macan are mass designs, very un Personal….

    • Thomas

A heavy SUV with a heavy V8 engine positioned ahead of the front axle without any attention to weight distribution can never be considered sporty, much less “The sportiest”.

  • ErnieB

Saw one and looked kinda cheap

  • Autoexperte

the alfa romeo stelvio qv is a great car, 510PS/505HP and the title best suv on the Nordschleife

  • JBsC6

Alfas are not actually unreliable. I grew up with three alfa spiders …1300, 1600 and a 1750… they just had to be serviced as was stated in the owners manual. Ignore that at your own peril.

Simple yet Americans can barely manage to bother checking the oil …in their cars and so the story blathers on…

Want passion, want driver excitement…buy an Alfa…

Just buy an inexpensive mopar extended warranty before the original warranty expires if your so worried…

They aren’t even expensive….and with the expected depreciation I’m evening eyeing a guilia quadropholio to go along with my corvette z51 and tesla model 3…

Just because I want to own a sexy Italian twin turbo …

Tempting and the stelvio makes it even easier to rationalize the Alfa with all wheel drive.

  • The QV yes, but frankly the bread and butter is the regular Veloce model, if that doesn’t sell. FCA is in big trouble.

  • Wandering_Spirit

I have been driving Alfas for a long time and i have to insist on the fact that, like the Lamborghini Urus does for Lambos, also this one doesn’t actually represent the spirit of the brand. In particular, the back and the rear window side are indeed very ugly and prone to aging badly. That’s for me. The front is interesting but i have the perception that with the Giulia and this, Alfa has understood that in order to sell cars you have to try to copy not the features but the essence of a German car through a “rational” design that reasonates with customers used to buy German. While i think it’s a good strategy to sell, i can’t say it’s good for those who buy Alfas because there is always a pinch of irrationality in them.

  • nauticalone

    I would choose the Porsche.

    • Michelin

Free to put your money where you want. A mass of people do unpersonal choice ….
Take different ways need uncommon people!!!

      • nauticalone

“Free to put your money where you want” well yeah, we all are!
I’m not sure what the rest of your comment meant?

  • TheHake

    I’d have the Porsche thanks.
