New Chevy Silverado 4500HD And 5500HD Coming To 2018 Truck Show

Chevrolet will unveil its all-new Silverado Class 4 and 5 chassis cab trucks in Indianapolis at the 2018 Work Truck Show, taking place March 6-9.

The two trucks will be available as regular as well as crew cab models, with both 2WD and 4WD capability, plus a wide range of GVWRs and wheelbases. They are expected to go into production in late 2018.

Doing the pulling will be the pairing of Duramax diesel power with the Allison transmission, while creature comforts such as OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi will aid connectivity.

“The Silverado 4500HD/5500HD trucks are the flagship of our full-line commercial truck portfolio and we’ve designed them to be among the best in the industry in maneuverability, serviceability, visibility, quietness and comfort, diesel fuel economy and more,” said GM Fleet VP, Ed Peper.

Since additional technical specs will only be made available in March, the least we can do for now is shine more light on the teaser image, revealing a very imposing front end.

Looks good, wonder if they will offer one with a truck bed. Those lights don’t look like leds. Maybe its the camera angle, but it does not look as big as the old gm medium duty trucks.

    • Victor Ferreira

Those are not LEDs. Ironically, it seems like they used the base model 1500 lighting on this one, which isn’t used on any of the HD models currently.

It’s good to see them going back into a market they had somewhat left idle as far as the Silverado is concerned. Wasn’t the Kodiak the last time they had a proper 4500/5500 truck?

      • Jweisberg

Yeah, the kodiak and gmc topkick. If they are using base model lights, then that interior might also have base materials. I hope they price these things reasonably.

        • Victor Ferreira

Agreed. But then again, this might just be the entry/mid spec model. I’m sure, with the recent trend of truck pricing and profit margins, there will be a ridiculously expensive luxury variant, at some point. Especially if they offer it with a truck bed.

  • Chad Gordon

    Looks kinda Dodgy to me….

    • Bash

      That’s a bad thing?

      • Chad Gordon

Not Necessarily, especially if you like the dodge look.

        • Wolverine350R

And when Dodge adopted that design it looked a bit GMC, So I guess it has come full circle.

  • Frank Yoster

i hate to break to ppl..but doesnt it look a bit Ramish 3500ish..?

  • MAGA

    Make America Gas Addicted

    • Wolverine350R

Air ride body mounts maybe? I would also assume that like semis, these truck are built to flex a bit more.

  • fred

The only reason why it looks Rammish is because the hood is raised higher then the headlights. The truth is, all of the trucks in this class have had this design since trucks trucks existed. So no, they’re not trying to copy Dodge, Dodge adopted a big truck look back in 90’s.
