Official Sketches Reveal New Hyundai Santa Fe’s Overhauled Design

Hyundai has released a pair of official design sketches of the next-generation Santa Fe, revealing the SUV’s overhauled exterior design.

As expected, the latest-generation Santa Fe takes clear design inspiration from its smaller sibling, the Kona. Consequently, the South Korean automaker has designed a pair of slim headlights and a new grille to transform the SUV’s face.

From the rear, the changes are just as apparent. There’s a pair of new headlights and numerous chrome trimmings. Additionally, the red car in the sketches has a faux silver diffuser as well as a small spoiler hanging over the rear window. Angular rear side windows add to the SUV’s exterior flair.

Alongside the new exterior design, Hyundai will implement a host of interior changes to make the latest model a fitting replacement to the outgoing generation. For example, both rear legroom and headroom are expected to increase, while five- and seven-seat variants will continue to be offered.

Powertrain details remain scarce, but we know petrol and diesel engines will be sold in select markets, while a plug-in hybrid is also around the corner.

I agree, Hyundai is more successful in executing this type of frontal deaign than Jeep and Mitsubishi.

    • Dennis Scipio

it doesn’t look that amazing it’s okay, but you do you.

      • donald seymour

I chuckled. But no, aren’t you tired of seeing the same rehashed facia ¿

  • AxlRock

Easy to spot a mix of several elements from other cars. But it all results in a smart looking SUV

  • Toronado_II

Nice, but thefront end is so complex and the rear so simple…

  • Craig

The last thing it needs is Camaro-like outward visibility. Make those side windows a little bit bigger and Hyundai has yet another winner on its hands.

    • Nihar

Sketches usually make a car look squatter than the real thing.

      • Craig

Let’s hope that’s true in this case!

        • Mark S

          spy shots….

  • Tex

Let’s wait for the real thing. Concepts are not it.

    • james.

      Unfortunately, this is true.

  • Harry Nimmergut

Yeah, I was really worried that it’d look like a big version of the fugly Kona/pre-’19 Cherokee. This is better than I thought. Bet pricing moves up, well into the 40s.

  • It fits into the design language they have been introducing with the I30N ..the grille shape etc..

  • Stephen G

Don’t get exited. It’s apparent that you guys haven’t been around long enough to realize that sketches, renderings and concepts never look like the actual production vehicle.

  • Subi-Rubicon1

Damn! This looks so good. It reminds me of the current Cherokee, but a lot smoother design. FCA totally missed the target with the Cherokee face-lift.

  • Mark S

    Looks really good.

  • Gooseman

I was in Korea last month and I saw the Kona all over the place.. It does look VERY similar to this concept sketch.

  • Bash

Yep, KIA teased us with the SP concept, Hyundai must do the same, I like this as much as I like the KIA version.

    • alexxx

Kia and huyandai are at the top of their games… beautiful

  • Harry_Wild

Like the front end design, not so much for the greenhouse narrow windows. Rear end, can you see out of it?

  • Dan Facciolo

    Looks very promissing.

  • Nordschleife

This is a nice adult Kona face. I approve of the rendering. We will see if I feel the same way in it physical guise.

  • no25

Looks really good! But not gonna be overexcited yet because the Kia Forte looked decent in sketches than crap in person.

  • botornot387

if only the genesis models looked this good…

    • LWOAP

Genesis will have an SUV so they’ll most likely nail the styling.

      • botornot387

considering they haven’t “nailed” the styling yet, I wouldn’t jump the shark and make that blanket statement

  • Christian Wimmer

SUVs are my least favorite type of vehicle, but these sketches are hot!

  • Paul

Is this thing related to the new Kia that has just been teased? it kind of looks a little bit like it.

  • klowik

This is the first time I will consider buying this Hyundai!!

  • john1168

This official design sketch looks GREAT! If it looks close to this, I’d consider buying one.

  • TheHake

    Looking good, Hyundai!!

  • MarketAndChurch

Hyundai and Kia are literally bringing us into the future. A lot of trends on this thing that I like.

  • Victor DB_2017

cant wait for Ford to copy this…the irony

  • Jesse A. C. Majors

    Looks like a winner

  • Mark S

Great looking SUV, I really like they offer the 5 seat version. But, did they fix their “New Car” smell yet?
